Is there gas in the tank? If so, is there fuel pressure to the car? I'd check those first. Do you get a check engine light?
My dad is having very occasional similar problems where it wouldn't start and it would stall. He got a code for one of the crank sensors popping up. This is not an uncommon problem, and can cause the engine not to run, as the PCM doesn't know which fuel injectors or spark plugs to fire if it can't tell what position the crank is in. I'll probably be doing a writeup on changing crank sensors soon since I'll probably be changing them on his car.
