This isn't a knock-knock joke.. I wish it were only a joke really. anyways, The outside temperature was -2 *F when I started my engine and it has always had a slight tick when the engine was cold. That's not an issue. the issue was when I put it in drive to take off.. The engine sounded like a pop can full of tiny pebbles being shaken about slowly. The noise increased with engine RPM.. I have no idea what would make my engine start knocking, especially with only 51,000 miles! The oil pressure was 115 PSI during all of this as well and I let the engine warm up for about a minute and a half before driving off. I didn't go over 2,000 RPM either. The sound slowly went away as the engine warmed up and by the time I got home it was completely gone... Ideas. I should also add I can't manage to get over 21 MPG @ 55 MPH either.. I used to get around 40 MPG @ 55!!

I know that you should let the oil pressure drop to about normal or close to it. These cars need to warm up b4 taking off. I got a remote starter for my car so i can start the car and let it warm up for about 10-15 mins. engine knock can because by alot of differant things, bad gas and even driving the car to hard, so yours could have been because the oil pressure was to high. try to warm the car up before you take off like that. As for the MPG you can only do some much to try to get the same Mpg, try new air filter, tire air pressure, O2 sensors, and ect. It could also be bcasue its so damn cold where you are.

Yea, maybe bad gas due to the frigid temperatures???

Are you running 5W30?? If not, you should be. The old small blocks were fine on 10W30 and heavier but these new engines need lighter oils. How cold was it?? Was the car on an incline or decline??

The car was totally level and it was -2* outside. I only run 5W30 in my engine.

what brand of oil are you using? I use mobil 1 in all my vehicles and change it more frequently if you do alot of short trip driving. Also run a good fuel injection/carbon deposit cleaner through system to get maximum mpg..Is you knocking like a pre igniton pinging? Gm requires the use of mobil 1 in all corvettes..lol
