at first i blamed it on aurora borialis ,but then i just gave up and im askin you guys to help me... I was goin about 40 MPH and revvin up to 4000RPM when my techometer flipped, all the sudden it flew to 8000 on the dial (but in reality it was still runnin at 4000) and it stayed like that, when i stopped the car it dropped to 4000 and when i started driving it flew to 8000 again. so i flipped my emergencies on and turned off the car, turned it back on and it was ok. im thinkin it might of been a tranny gremlin like you guys talked about (but this one was an electronics gremlin) Then i got in the car tonight and my lights on the interior were all messed up (before, the interior dials lit up differently cuz i had some lights out, or so i thought, the temp gauge was all lighted up, the RPM gauge was lighted up except for in the center at 4000 the light was out, on the speedometer, the light was out in the middle and from 120 to 140 and the fuel was completely dim, and the center console worked) after this incident, now the fuel gauge is shinin like crazy, the speedometer is lighted up all the way, the tachometer is dim, but most of the lights are lit except for the 8000 RPM mark and the temp gauge is as dim as the guel gauge used to be and my center console dont light up anymore. Can yall guyz explain this stuff cuz im all out of ideas and the borialis thing just dont explain it to well ;D

if anybody was wonderin what this might have been, i got some news.. at first i thought it was the fuel pump, then i ruled that out. then me and my friend (who happends to be a mechanic) stumbled on somethin. but we really still havent completely figured it out. it turns out that the error codes in the computer system could only be completely read by GM, if its a third party working on a second gen. they would be able to see the codes and a description but thats about it. it does not describe where the problem is or what is really causing it it would just say, fuel level error (that is the fuel sensor problem that i asked about the first time) so now i have to go to a GM dealership for them to tell me exactly what is wrong with the car (but personally i think its the computer).....

I'm not going to call you a liar, but all of the dash lights for back lighting are all interconnected.. There is no way some of them would work, and the others not, and vice versa. Due to your description of what the gauges were doing, it sounds as though the dash cluster could be loose. Try pushing on the cluster to see if it starts behaving. If not, you might have to take the dash apart like I did to re-seat the cluster. It was around a 2 hour job! This is the extent in which the dash needs to be taken apart in order to re-seat the cluster. While I had the dash apart I decided to go ahead and do the climate control, DIC, and radio to make sure their connections were tight. This is an example of one of the connectors to the instrument panel. If the connection is not tight, it will short, or cause problems like you're having.. I did teh "fix" on mine over a year ago and it has never done it since. (on mine the gauges would stop working and the warning lights would turn on/off. The backlighting never went out as far as I can remember though.

thats hella helpful, but there seems to be some sort of computer error or short goin on. a couple of days after i wrote the second post, the same thing happened three times in one day, it got up to 4000 RPM bumped the car pretty hard, the tach flew to 8000 while the car was in accuality still at 4000 and the lights and the sensor went bazerk. after that, the day-time running lights wouldnt turn on the car thought it was night time for the next week. all the internal lights were on as though i was driving at night and the projection lights were lit up instead of the day-time running lights. then after about a week without incident, it turned back to the daytime lights and the internal cluster lights were off during the day. by the way, the reason it was doing that was i have a bad crankshaft sensor (or camshaft, i dont remember). the thing i cant figure out is why the lighting goes insane everytime it happens. (when i bought the car the center console, where the floorshift is, now its off, now i know what could be causing the lights to be dim, but i still got the question about the center console and why the lights went out on that and why is there a connection between a bad sensor and the lighting in the vehicle)
thats my main concern.
but thanks custom, ill check that out as soon as i have some time to take the thing apart (i think that it might be the reason why some of the lights are dim on the cluster cuz when i hit it, the tack sometimes lights up a little so i think your right on that, but please help me with this other stuff.)
Thanks

stupid quesiton, but you don't happen to think that you leave your windsheild wipers in the 'ON' position, do you? If they're left on, the headlamps will always be on, until they're turned off. (the DRL's will never turn on.) Does your car have the rain-sensing windsheild wipers?

Yea, i have the rain-sensing wipers, but the wipers wasnt on. and the lights were on auto, and i even tried to manually turn on the lights and it still went to the projection lights in the middle of the day. its almost like the car thought that it was night all the time, like there was a problem with the sensor or somethin

ok, just for clarification, were the wipers switched off, or was it just not raining? It makes a difference. If the wipers are switched on at all, the lights will be on, whether the wipers are actually going, or not.
