Can anyone tell me the process for changing the crankshaft position sensors on 2001 4.0? I have new ones ordered and it looks like you must remove the oil filter and oil filter bracket.

Replacing the sensor itself seems simple. How would you reprogram it though? Are special tools needed?

I replaced the crankshaft sensors on my '01 4.0 without removing the oil filter. I put the car on ramps, removed the front splash shield, and accessed the sensors by laying under the car.
The sensors are on the front side of the engine. Clearances are really tight, especially if you have large hands and forearms like me.
I didn't do any relearn procedure and my car ran fine as soon as I completed the job.
