heres the shape its in:
scrapes on brick wall from rear door back
minor dings and bumps on front bumber and back bumper
control arm bearings need replaced
small tear in back seat
intermittent cd player
the PRND321 shift is worn.
the PRND321 Words are blurred.
it has the autobahn package, sun/moon roof, alloy wheels, and theft system (no remote though)
the windows go up, but not down.
the steering wheel cover needs painted or replaced.
the right passenger seat is either off of the track or something else is wrong with it.
and lastly, there is a trailor hitch.

I don't think so. Personally you have to weigh how much money you need to put in it to get it back up to "I don't mind being seen in this car status." I think you will end up putting a lot more in it then its probably worth. Especially with 140k on the odometer I almost certain that you will have another issue come up soon. I personally don't think it's a car that one should consider. With that mileage and with the problems you described above, I would move on. But to each his own. Also, if the owner was as careless as you make them sound (driving into things and scratching and dinging the car up) then I would add that trailor hitch to the list of no's. These cars are not designed for trailor's. The owners manual does say that they can pull up to a 1000lb trailor, but that it voids the warranty. If the manufacturer was that adament about the aurora not being a vehicle that should tow (and since they specifically put it in the manual) I would have to pass.
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do. ;D

I'd have to agree with Elan, it's better to be patient and find one in better condition. It'll be worth it in the long run. I also am itching to get another one but I am SO picky because having already owned one I know what I want in the car… which is everything LoL… But I know it’s difficult to find cars that haven’t had a rough life. I lucked out with my current 95 I was the 2nd owner and the one before me treated this car real well and I treat this car like gold. Okay fine gold that can do the occasional burnout. Anyway, I’m only getting rid of it because of a few minor things that I don’t find worth replacing when I can just upgrade… So it’s something to consider. They can be very expensive but I’d say well worth it in the end.

There are always things to do… even if it’s just run out of the factory… LoL Although if that’s what you want then I commend you on your efforts and wish you the best of luck

Parts can get quite expensive on these cars. I also suggest getting a 1995 GM factory manual. The one your dad has will not apply, to many changes were made as the years progressed.
Good luck with the car. $1G is a good deal, make sure you have enough left over somewhere to sink it into getting her running up to snuff

I personally wouldn't get it. But at least if you do and you discover more problems, you aren't into it very deep. Are the tires and such in decent shape? Would you have to spend anything if you just wanted to safely drive it but didn't care about the rest?

my dad is a manager of a mechanics shop, so i think he knows what he is doing. the rear tires are brand new, so are the brakes, rotors and muffler

I don't know what you're planning to do first - but please, please, take off the trailer hitch as soon as you can.

If yer confident in the ability to get it fixed up then go for it, however, you only paid a grand for it, so cant get to discouraged if and when something fails
