General question. Was working on my sons car and I noticed a box that comes off the air intake tube right after the filter box. It is attached to the intake tube by and rubber gommet (seal) and clamp. Took the box off and it is empty, nothing in it. Wondering what it is???

A pic would help (as would my owning a classic), but I'd bet it's a resonance chamber. Basically a closed piece attached to the intake that doesn't go anywhere. It just helps muffle some of the intake noise.

Yes, its the air intake resonator box. I've tried to cap it at the intake tube but cant find a decent cap size

Thanks for the quick replys. I thought it might be something like that but was not sure. May loof for a way to cap it off or change the intake. Thanks for the help, I get confused easily.

Don't worry hockeydad, the resonance chamber was rather confusing to me too... the first time I took a good long look under my hood, I found the chamber completely disconnected! It was just sitting on top of its natural groove above the radiator. I got it hooked back up eventually, but that notched clamp was a BEAR to get resecured!

That clamp is a pain, thats why I put the close the clamp, slide it over the opening on the intake tube and do my best to slide the resonator into place.
Cant wait to get rid that thing anyway...lol ;D

Yes, its the air intake resonator box. I've tried to cap it at the intake tube but cant find a decent cap size permatex and a pringle can lid.

i dont know if it was a pringle can lid, but i do know one thing, it fit in perfect, so i obtained a breather filter, cut a hole in it, permatexed it in, and now i got 500 horsepower

I like the big green bike rack on the back - very useful.
