Well I think I have bought one. I had no plan to do it but i was looking at one and test drove it.. before I knew it I was inside the dealership signing papers. I'm going now to give the final go and to give them my $4,000 down payment. It's a 2001 V6: Build date 6/4/2001 Significan Options: Premium 6 speaker sound system sunroof dual heated seats precision stability control onstar moisture-sensing wipers traction control FE3 suspension. All weather package I know I was looking for the V8 but this one was only $13,995 and it has 38,000 miles! It has all the options except for the 17" rims and the V8. It's such a hard decision. I don't know what to do yet. This is the car: It's not very often you come across one with that low of miles for 14K and with all the options available.

I also talked with someone who works at the dealer and he has a 2001 V8 model. I'm going to refer him over to this site too probably. He said that the V8 is his choice but the V6 is still a nice car. I was really surprised with how nicely the V6 still moved. It had nice pickup definately. he said the only difference between the V6 and V8 is basically on the highway. The V8 he has will easy overtake the V6, but the V6 has more low end torque for the type of driving I do... Plus I was gettign 33 MPG average on my test drive on the highway at 65 MPH! (running regular gas too is a huge plus.) Unfortunately the Riv is definately much faster, and smoother. But the Aurora is so much more luxury and a whole lot more options. I just hope the 3.5 doesn't have any serious issues. my bank account will be nearly depleated from the downpayment atleast until I can sell the Riviera. The warranty is only 1 month/1000 miles. I just hope if anything does decide to go wrong, it does it before the warranty is up. But considering it is a very very late build 2001 it should be pretty problem free I suspect? It's almost late enough to be a 2002 model!

I see that that 3.5 has some useful options that are standard on the 4.0. The Precision Control System, the traction Control and the moisture sensing wipers are all good. ________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

The 3.5 is suprisingly eager to move of the line, especially below 2000rpm. I'm sure the weight difference help a bit as well. Yes indeed it is. My 2001 had a build date of 01/00, so you are in luck Congrats once again!

Wow, man we suck 'em in FAST around here. ;D Custom, you are the best judge of whether or not to buy it... that is a great mileage/age combo, and GEEZ i absolutely love those factory chromies. The 2nd-gen 3.5L models were manufactured in much larger numbers compared to the 4.0L's, and I don't think any major issues have cropped up in the ~4 years that they have been on the road. Is the Aurora Shortstar the same 3.5L that is in Aleros and Intrigues?

Sweet! It looks great! The later builds definitely seem to be better. But can you get a warranty on it for a little extra just to be on the safe side? It sounds as though you have the All-Weather package, which includes traction control and stability control, the Convenience package that includes the electrochromic mirror, rain-sensing wipers, memory package, and HomeLink (also included with the sunroof). The only other package is the Passenger Comfort package that includes dual-zone climate, 8-way passenger seat with 4-way lumbar, and a center armrest in the back (no idea what it means to not have the armrest, maybe it just doesn't have cupholders and such). The premium audio was the Bose package, and included 8-speakers. You'll see the logo "Bose" on the tape deck door. That's certainly a well-equipped V6'er. As to the low-end torque, I suspect it's the weight that helps a lot. I believe it's about 175 lbs lighter, though with that optional equipment it will be less than that. I kind of doubt that the V6 makes more low-end torque than the V8 does. It certainly might be closest to the V8 in the low end, but .5L of extra displacement are hard to overcome. In addition the V8 has a gearing advantage with a first gear ratio of 10.98:1 to the V6's 1st gear ratio of 9.61:1. The V8's ratio is 14% higher, though by 4th gear it's only 8% higher. People seem to say the Aurora is slow off the line, but it's really not. I mean, compared to some other V8 cars, sure, but all in all it pulls away pretty hard. Hey, one wicked thing about the 3.5L V6 compared to your 3800 SC is the redline. That Shortstar has a fuel cutoff at 6700 rpm! The space between the ~5800 rpm shift of the 3800 to the ~6600 rpm shift of the Shortstar is a lot of fun I'd bet!!

I bought it.. I pick it up tomorrow. Just in time too, the Riviera broke down on me on the way home from the dealer after signing the papers. The brakes went out! anyway, the Aurora has the Convenience package, passenger comfort, and the all-season package. It appears the only option it does not have is the Bose stereo.

I find that often these people don't own Auroras at all. Perhaps it is the brand perception - "its an Oldsmobile so it must be slow" kind of thinking.
Once they experience the car, it's another story. For example, most of my passangers commented on how "zippy" and "light footed" the Aurora feels. I know for a fact that omegaic received similar (but even more pronounced) comments about his car as well.

What a beauty!
I only have one question for you. Why did you paint everything white, including your dog?
Ok, I lied. What kind of dog? Malamute? Or maybe malamute/husky mix?
**edit**
Looks kind of like a polar bear in the 5th pic from the bottom. ;D

Said she was an Alaskan sled dog (or the kind of dog they use anyways.) She's 9 or 10 years old and starting to show her age unfortunately. Definately the best dog we've ever owned though.

Man, that big dealer badge on the left side of the trunk's gotta go... Those are easy to remove if you warm it up a bit with a hair dryer, soak the foam a bit with some 3M Adhesive Remover being careful to wipe it off the paint as soon as possible, then take some dental floss, wrap it around your fingers like you were going to floss with it, but use it as a saw to cut the foam backing to remove the badge (always being careful of the paint). Then all you have left is some foam on the paint that you can carefully roll/peel off with help from the 3M Adhesive Remover.

Man, that big dealer badge on the left side of the trunk's gotta go... Agreed 100%, I would personally take it back to the stealership and have them remove it... along with the plastic license plate borders. Unless they are paying you for advertising, that is. Otherwise, you have got a BEAUTIFUL new automobile!!

I'm going to leave the dealer badge on it for a little while just because of how happy I am with the purchase. The people down to that dealer were extremely helpful and nice. (Kind of rare for a GM dealer eh?) I don't mind the advertisement at all for a little while. They deserve it.

Something bugs me about that dealer name It reads as DAMAGED...lol Or De-Magged, like they removed the mag wheels and slapped on some steelies (or left it on bricks). The sooner you remove the badge, the easier it'll come off the paint. You still have the license plate bracket to advertise for them.

Screw that license plate bracket. I would take that off and switch it with something nice like this.
