Hey there, welcome to ACNA! Your question is a common one, and many of us have tried to calculate our 0-60 & 1/4 mile times on various occasions.
First question: do you know if you have the Autobahn package on your '97? That should make for better results. Check your RPO codes (in the trunk under the spare tire cover) for QQX, which means your car came with V-rated tires and Autobahn.
I've never been to the track with my Aurora, but I'm sure some others will post their official results.

I would swear I started a post here compiling all the known 1/4 mile times for Auroras... I can't find it though. :-\

In the 1/4 mile the Aurora is a mid 15's to high 15's car. I haven't taken mine to the track and probably won't but based on what I have read my 15's guess is pretty accurate.
2nd gen 4.0 run about 1/2 second better (lighter, refined engine etc)

Factory stock, regular Aurora, published magazine times: 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora 8.2 sec. 0-60 mph, 16.3 quarter mile ET. However my 1998 Autobahn equiped, very slightly modified car will do 7.0 sec 0-60. Therefore I'm pretty sure I could get mid 15's in the quarter, the 2-3 shift killing any chance of sub 15's.

I don't have the Aurora yet, but im planning to maybe buy one. Yesterday I drove one... damn that car is so confortable and luxurious! Very different of my old 3.1 Chevy Z24 I didn't push the car hard.. but the owner show me a little what that V8 have on a dead stop. Its got a lot of torc but its smooth, and quiet . And I think that the engine is even more powerfull higher RPM, but he didn't floor it... I read some things about the Autobahn but after I saw the car.. so I could'nt check the V rated tires.. All I know is that the car is FULLY Loaded. All options...everything.. I hope he have Autobahn.. What is the performance gain with autobahn?

xener, check the drivers door for the QQX code if it has that, then it's equipted with the autobahn.

Xener, the performance gains with Autobahn aren't really to evident, its not like it has a turbo or a blower....however, it does have a higher gearing ratio (3.71 taken from the STS, as opposed to the 3.48 found on regular Auroras). The code QQX refers to V-rated Michelin tires. Its quiet possible your future car (if you get an Aurora) may not have the same V-rated tires (Michy Energy MXV4 Plus). Also the Autobahn package features a speed limiter of 140 mph instead of 108.
I have also noticed non Autobahn Auroras have the chromed rims, where Autobahn has the alloy

I have also noticed non Autobahn Auroras have the chromed rims, where Autobahn has the alloy Huh, is that always the case?? I'd think it should be the opposite, the chrome being available on the more premuim version. Interesting... xener, as far as options... just about EVERY Aurora came fully loaded. The only things you might be missing (that were options on the Classic) are the Autobahn package as mentioned, power sunroof, heated seats, and chrome wheels. I've got all of those (but only because I put the chromies on myself). Good luck with the potential purchase!

I believe chrome and autobahn options were separate and independent. It might just be coincidence that you've seen them only that way.

my 95 slightly modded autobahn should do mid 15's. i dragraced this kid in a integra vtech gsr and his 1/4 is 15.7 so my guess is 15.5 or 15.4

my unofficial time 0-60 is 8-13 and that was using my wristwatch timer and going up a slight incline. hey xener get the aurora. I used to have the 2.8 z24 too before i moved up to this car. trust me if you have the autobahn package you're gonna love the feeling of 140mph on a long strecth of highway. I know the z is strong off the line but the aurora has great topend power and would blow the z away on a highway. I'm currently looking to procharger for a supercharger, so get the car already. chicks dig it!!

is there a way to change out the governer to make it do 140 on the non autobahn auroras? There is a way, but only from a GM shop running a Tech II and they won't do it. The PCM can be reflashed, but you could sue the shop for it if any damge or crash occurred.

Coincidence is right re: chromed rims and Autobahn.
140 mph is essentially bragging rights, we dont have a road system that allows speeds in excess of 70 mph, so doing double that is pretty useless.
Performance mods are limited overall for the Aurora, but we do what we can! And have fun sharing with our fellow members.

Some other options to look for other than those already mentioned are the Bose radio and CD changer.. if you want to do audio modifications in the future DO NOT get the Bose, but if not, you'll be very happy with the Bose system. All in all every person usually looks at an Aurora and says wow! it's FULLY LOADED! But really, the Aurora has about 7-10 options here and there (small ones really), that you can find on them.

You think 70MPH is bad...i would take a 70 limit ANY day over our 55mph limit system over here. If the limit is 70 i would do 90. Right now its 55, and i usually go 75. Believe me if i had the autobahn, i wouldve taken it past the 110 that i have been at.

You'll have to look for the RPO codes under the spare tire cover in the truck, look for QQX (V rated tires), KVR (3.71 Gearing), the limiter is not advertised or indicated, but the governor is pushed back to 140 mph.
