jetchips.com has announced the Jet Chip GM Performance Programmer. Among other details mentioned on that page, it says that this equipment can do away with top speed limits & raise shift points. It also says "Available for most GM gas and diesel applications." I hope that the Aurora is included in that.

Aurora, or Oldsmobile, is not included in the list of applications. They list different part numbers for each GM application, but I don't see a difference in the basic unit, probably the programing is different. Perhaps if you call them they can advise if one of the models is suitable for the 4.0L. The add copy seems to state it's a knock off Tech II. Could be interesting.

It would be reasonable to say that it may very well work. You have in the Aurora, basically, a Cadillac drivetrain. But, for $450, I would verify that it would work! Sounds really awesome!

I doubt they will have one for the Aurora or Northstar or any non-smallblock application. Notice all the cars in the divisions are small-blocks or diesels?
You can already buy programs like LS1edit to change these parameters, Jet is just putting it into a packaged unit.

Why not buy a Tech II and do these modifications through it???

Why not buy a Tech II and do these modifications through it??? For one, a Tech-II costs about $2,000. An update/program subscription would cost even more. For another, though, it isn't necessarily possible that a Tech-II can change shift points and such. It can only change those things that were made configurable via the Tech-II. A program change may be needed for things like speed limiters and rev limiters and such, which you would need more than just a Tech-II for. Tech-I prices are pretty low now, though, and I'm considering one for the 'vette. They are about $500-600 or so, and I think work on cars up to about 1993? At least my car, and probably a lot of other OBD-I cars, use an EEPROM, though, and can't be modified on the fly, rather they require a flash and reprogramming, which requires special equipment. Maybe in 10 years, Tech-II's and such will be cheap when the Tech-III or whatever comes out.

Yeah, now that's more like it. I know where there's three Tech II's laying with a good bit of dust on them. Maybe I'll make an offer. ;-)

My mechanic said he would change a bunch of things for me. Like he said he would add a DIC Start-up message of my choice and stuff. lol.

Your mechanic is high. I've used a techII a few times and played with everything I could. You can't really change *******, only diagnostic modes/tests and view info.

A few weeks ago I checked with a very reputable tuner www.pcmforless.com and asked them if they could do custom programming for the Northstar/Aurora engine. They responded that they could not, apparently nobody has hacked this code yet.

Steven's '95 is ODB-I, so I don't see why some extra code couldn't be added/modified in his PROM. He didn't say anything about his mechanic using a Tech-II.

these "performance chips" do nothing but change your timing and lean out your fuel. Overall, it has a harmful effect of your car. It will result in increased heat and misfires, and if you are lucky it will chip a piston or two and kill your cylinder compression.
No thanks.
