95 non-autobahn, had the stock mufflers cut off and two small-case Xcelerator turbo mufflers welded in. i had two 2x3 inch dual oval tips welded on that look very similar to those found on the old FWD Caddies with N*s. sounds great. not too loud ever. nice smooth rumble at idle and growls under loaded acceleration. you can always hear them but not intrusively very mellow at highway cruising speeds-no need to turn up the stereo. very happy with them. no real performance gains, but i was after the sound more than anything. gotta love that V-8 rumble..

I have a 1998 aurora 4.0 and did an exhaust upgrade to a 3" cat converter from a 1991 chevy 454 SS pickup welded onto the downpipe to replace the cat the 3" outlet of the converter is single outlet between the swingarms of the rear suspension looks like its meant to be 3" i have it to a 3" Y pipe running out to 2 3" x 2' chrome tips lots of chrime under there will make ya go blind there is still room for a muffler under there but for now i am gona be as loud as possible people wont even race me they think there is a monster under the hood i was told by the guys that installed this muffler system that i might be able to make from 300 to 320 hp pff this system but i am sceptical although on 20" heavy chrome flats like 15lbs each heavier then stock wheels i still gunsmoke my friends auroras and sound great doing it will let you all know when i put a 3" dual outlet on my pipes amazingly hardly no drone from exhaust on highway real intimidating sound would reccommend got $399 in system worth every penny We need pics!

have been putting this off for over a year now because i couldn't suffeciently make up my mind. at first i was going to get some Speed FX which were Flowmaster 40's knock offs. The cutaways revealed no difference at all. That was early last summer and now these guys at Auto Performance Specialists can't get them bc they went out. good thing i didnt go with them. after listening to dozens of sound clips online i realized that some fat glass packs would produce the sound i'm seeking. DOHC motors sound amazing with glass sound amazing whereas push rod motors sound just ok, IMHO. after getting under the car and doing some measuring, there was no question that it would have to be pretty small glass packs. the OEM mufflers have a 14" case. I looked at Cherry Bombs over at Pep Boys, but they were all over 30" which would require a new mandrel pipe. Then i looked into Imco, Flowtech & Edelbrock Red Hots which come in 24" it was going to be a real tight fit and may still require a new mandrel so i kept looking. an old friend of mine use to work at muffler shops many years, and he suggested Meineke. I was like no way they are so expensive. Well just got off the phone with them They have custom size Red Hots glass packs in 18" which will be perfect. i took it to an exhaust shop yesterday, to get a professional opinion on sizes. they told me 18" would be perfect. so i am on my way now to go pick them up. Cherry Bombs and Red Hots only come in red. i had in mind to strip them down and paint them a brilliant blue color( same as my strut bar) for one thing you can see the mufflers and pipes on these cars pretty easily therefore the red would look funny. So i am off to pick them up and will be painting them blue today. That's customizing! lol $29.15 each plus tax, pretty good deal. of course there will be several pics documenting my work on the glass packs and before/ after shots. i ill also post a video when i'm done you know i will!

see im different I would want people to see the red glass packs. when I was looking into it for mine they asked if I wanted it painted or not I told them heck no I want people to see the red mufflers.....plus on the 2nd gen you gotta be almost exactly behind the aurora to see the mufflers.

I suppose this thread may or may not have served anyone with actual value, so maybe it doesn't matter.
But please keep the chatter out. If you want to spitball ideas, solicit comments, etc, start a thread. If you actually performed an upgrade on your exhaust and want to share the specifics of it and your impressions so that someone else contemplating an upgrade can easily find lots of information, then post that here.

My .02.....the easiest way to hold them on would be to go to the rear of the stock tips with the ones from Wooddash in place, drill through both of them & put in a pop rivet.

marc same idea except they use a screw to hold it on instead of a pop rivet

Mine - I have no idea what brand/model these are. I was in an accident on Christmas Eve 4 years ago, coming home from an NFL game. Was sitting at a stop light, about 9pm, and a small Saturn - I guess, didn't see the RED stop light or my RED tail lights (which were not out, BTW). After it was all said and done - just needed a new front tire/rim (from hitting curb), alignment/balancing, replacement/repaint rear bumper (but wasn't even dented, just scratched), and a totally new exhaust. Maybe a few other things I'm forgetting, but that's all I can remember. Cost the insurance company close to $4,500 for the repair. The lady that hit me, her car was DOA and recycled. Engine to dashboard pretty much "blew" up, it was terrible. She was shaken up badly, and I just remember seeing a little car plow into me. Luckily for her, right across the street was a fire department, and I crossed the street and got her help, then called 911. Exhaust is much better sounding than stock, with a bit more get-up. It sounds fantastic at 3,000 rpm. I just wish I could have had a say in the matter since it was a totally custom job. The guy who inspected my car was real nice, and even owned a newer Aurora (2nd gen).

who ever did it has great welding skills and knew what he/she was doing I don't know much about welding, but I have to agree, the welds are nice. However you should have seen what a terrible job they did on repainting the rear bumper. Sure it matched color of my car but the orange peel ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_peel_(effect) ) is terrible. Thankfully it's only the bumper and not the hood or something. But the customer service was outstanding. Go figure - it's a Ford "super" dealership that my insurance company wanted me to go to. Great people over @ the repair facility.

I took an interior video of my pipes at highway speeds this afternoon. The only thing that my camera can't capture is the low-end rumble that you feel when its accelerating. There is a little bit of a drone at 75mph, hardly anything at 65mph. If you're cruising at 75 and there's any music on at all you can't hear it.
Rob brought up a good point too: While I guess you can classify the sound as "drone" we both have straights and we don't mind the sound one bit.
Let's keep the comments off this thread as much as possible. Feel free to ask questions on youtube.

4.6 exhaust manifolds will fit, about $40.00 each from junk yard. muffler delete is free (cost of pipe)

GROUND POUNDER ;-) At least thats how mine sounds now. A VERY low frequency rumble. Can only hear it inside if the radio is off.
I just put on 2 Dynomax super turbo's #17730. Cost was $94 for mufflers from amazon.com and 60 to install at little mom pop shop in GA. Quite pleased. Wife doesn't object. Its just my work car but I still love it.
I am considering putting on a Cherry bomb in place of the resonator for a smidge more db's. but I don't want to drone.
Anyone replace the resonator with the cherry bomb or straight through with a setup similar to mine? Results?
