When talking about intakes, what exactly will make an intake hiss? On my 3.5 between 3,000 and 5,000 RPM I get a very loud, distinct hissing sound. It sounds similar to a turbo spooling up. Now, does this typically mean that the intake is restrictive, or is it something else? It made this sound with everything stock, and it's louder even with my gutted airbox setup. It's not a bad sound, I'm just looking for the cause of it. I'm not going to drive around without the air intake on either to test it.

What happens after 5k rpm? I don't remember any hissing sound from my intake.

What happens after 5k rpm? I don't remember any hissing sound from my intake. It goes away. ;D it's really quiet at 3k RPM it peaks at around 4,300 and it goes away by 5K RPM.

I'd say it's just some sort of resonance that sets up at that range of revs. Air moving can whistle, hiss, etc, over surfaces. Slight changes can alter that a lot. It doesn't mean it is restrictive, nor that it is flowing well either. That's interesting that it falls off, though, as air would be flowing the most at the highest rpms.

This might be a long shot, but have you checked your air filter?

I just put in a K&N filter about 1,500 miles ago. it's louder with the K&N meaning it occurs after the filter I would assume. (between air filter and intake manifold.)

I have the same hiss on my car. At first I didn't notice it when I bought the car, so I'm not sure if it was there at first, but it's definetely there. Same exact thing - on the 3.5L...

I have it too.. drops off maybe around 5k rpms, I am too concentrated on the road, to look at my rpms. I know right before it hits 3rd it stops, and I've never gotten past third, so I wouldnt know.. Although I'd like to know the cause of this too.. so when someone asks whats the noise, I can be like its my supercharger.. lol -Nick

Is the screen on the MAFS OK? Sounds like it may be producing the sound.

I have the same hiss on my 4.0 around the same RPM ranges when I get on it, it makes a loud hiss but its just the air being sucked in quickly, thats all it is....nothing to worry about
