Ok, although I don't approve of street racing, sometimes you just need to show people who's boss. Last night I was getting on the highway and I was gaining speed up the on ramp. I hit about 70mph and I was still slowly gaining, and beginning to pass people. So I am about to pass a 98-99ish Maxima SE, and as I'm getting the nose of my car past his, he punched it and jumped about a car length ahead of me and then slowed down. I didn't think anything of it because I wasn't really into racing this guy at this time, so I slowly just eased into the gas and pulled away slightly because he was keeping up with me....at this time we were going about 80mph and my exit was coming up and this guy was still trying to mess around with me, so I said, "screw it." I went passed my exit and got to a straight away with no cars except for me and the Maxi. I was in the slow lane and he was in the fast lane. I punched it slightly to jump on him just to let him know that if he wanted to race me then this is the time, lol. So I pulled right next to him and he punched it. I gave him a quick second to try and pull away and then I got on it and the rest is history. I easily took him and I think I was as suprised as he was. The thing that kinda gets me about those people is that they don't know when to stop. After I beat him and took off far ahead, he came roaring up behind me driving like a crazy person trying to race me again. I was the bigger man and got off the next exit. So the way I see it, mark one down for the good guys!

what year and model you have? Well its a 4.0 i know that, but is it a 2nd gen?? The big classic gets mightly owned by the max. I raced a 2000 automatic loaded to the gills and it just ate me up, embarassing. My friend even said he thought the rora was gonna blow the doors off it. I did too.

I have a 2001 4.0. There's another thread somewhere on this site that a 2nd gen (I think) gets beat a couple times by a Maxima. I don't know why because I didn't have too much trouble with it, and my car is completly stock

Could have been a tired Maxima as that car looked the same 95-99 just like the Classic. These year models were 190hp, the one Steven raced was 222hp. But congrats for shutting him down.

yeah i drove a 99 Maxima for 6 months right before i got my Aurora and it accelerates really quick but its power sucks. my sister in law went to Iraq and let us use her car while she was out there. it was ok but too small for me.

mission believe u are talkin about my post in another thread. the one i raced was the newer body style, 5 speed. witht he 20's on, we were pretty much neck and neck. i took him, then he wanted to run again, and he took me, then slowed down and i took him. each run was pretty close. the rims slow it down quite a bit...all that unsprung weight

I had an experience last weekend along these lines. I was back home driving thru town heading out the my gf folks place. Driving along the main road minding my own business already doing 5 over knowing that cops usually watch this stretch on Friday nights. I see this grand am gt and older grand prix gt fartin around but didnt think anything of it. Anyway, I pull up next the the grand prix and its full of high schoolers and the girl driving was trying to get my attention which at night with my tinted windows i can see them, they cant see me. She kept goosing it and then letting off so i thought ok, and gave it about 3/4 and walked away. Goin up the hill out of town she boxed me in behind another car which eventually sped up so now i was ready to go. Once you get up on the hill theres a nice long stretch so i got in the right lane and waited with the power mode "armed." Well, in all fairness I let her get ahead of me a little and that car was screaming when I mashed it to the floor and walked away. I could see looks on their faces, priceless. Then I let off and let her try again. After that she pretty much gave up. Moral of the story, dont mess with the Aurora on the highway. ;D Might I mention this is the first experience Ive had with someone trying to race me. No one else has ever tried, which doesnt bother me. But it was just way tooooo tempting.

You guys be careful! I was in a road racing incident that turned into a bad wreck for the other guy.

I agree. Although I raced, its not something I would be doing quite often. It's very dangerous and illegal. Anyone who is tempted to race, make sure you are very very careful.

I agree totally. Although I was being a typical male at that point I dont recommend street racing. And in Iowa this time of year which is mostly rural the deer are going to be moving alot more. Good ole rut.

So I'm in Green Bay the other night with my girlfriend and I missed a turn. I turn around at a gas station and I notice a sweet looking Chevy Silverado with 20's and exhaust. I pull out of the station a little heavy but not too aggressive and I end up pulling past this guy quickly, but not fast. This truck punches it and is hanging with me side by side and wont leave. There is a stretch of road about a mile and no cars on it for about a half a mile (really late at night). I decide to punch it from a 30mph role and I jump a car length instantly with the speedo climbing rapidly I pull about another car length or a tad more by the time I hit 80. Then I let off. The truck pulls along side of me, its a Chevy silverado SS (AWD 345hp). I was tickled pink to have beaten a high 14 low 15 second truck. Off the line the Aurora might not be that fast but once it gets moving it moves pretty darn well. Well enough to hang with a 1984 Corvette C4 on the highway just barely pulling away from me. I love this car.

Stupid kid in a Vibe wanted to dance tonight. He took off from a 2 lane left and turn and acclerated along a pretty long stretch of road. I tailed behind not willing to pass on the left, there was a few cars. We got to a main multilane street where my condo is (2 blocks south of the street above). He tried to get a jump out of the corner, but obvious Vibes dont do well in corners at high speeds. Knowing I was gonna shortly blast him I got into the far left lane, took about 75 ft to catch up after the turn and pass. *sigh* kids see dual exhaust, tint and chrome rims and all of sudden they seem obligated to show me how "superior" their car is to mine....they evantually learn.

any of you raced a late model Mark VIII yet? or an LS? I havent raced one but Ive driven a brand new LS. They dont have the neck snapping acceleration that our cars do upon kickdown and it doesnt seem like they pull as hard. The kid I know who owns it drove my car and said the 4.0 in the Aurora definitely pulls harder but we both agreed the LS would win a street race. Highway on the other hand, that would be close. One of our other buddies who has an 02 Maxima 6 speed said the LS would beat his car. Still be fun to find out.

only other car I've raced with my Aurora besides the maxima, is a 2001 VW GTI VR6, and I beat up on that pretty good...lol
