well the conversion is already done i jus installed a 4.6 300hp motor and an autobahn tranny from a 96 eldorado into my aurora. the motor was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago and the tranny only had 80,000 on it. the eldorado was wrecked and i paid 550 for it and already made my money back wit the good parts so it reaslly didnt coest me anything. and hell time is time i had plenty of time took me bout two weeks between working and stuff. but i already got my answer so thanks. i'll post pics real soon

Questions, I read through this thread and still don't have the answers I'm looking for and would appreciate some help.
I have a '95 Aurora and have located a Autobahn 95 in a yard.
1. Can the differential be swapped or does it have to be the whole tranny?
2. I'm being told the axels in the Autobahn are more heavy duty and it's recommended swap?
3. To do this right I'd have to swap Computer, Tranny/Diff., and axels?
Please someone with experience please advise as I wanna do this right.

I'm fairly certain all you need to do is swap the differential as far as the tranny goes, you will need to swap or reprogram the pcm too. I've never heard about the axels. PM Aurorabrain, he will know the most about it as he has added Autobahn before

I dont know for sure but wouldnt the non autobahns actually have a higher top speed (after the limiter was removed obviously) than an autobahn or would it just fall on its face? Because just by the gear ratio those wouold both make sense.

i'd say they'd be about same, but maybe the non Autobahn would have a higher top speed

I have an Autobahn Intrigue and it says the Autobahn package is H rated tires (instead of S) and heavy duty brakes. There was nothing mentioned about govenors or different axles, transmissions etc.

Because just by the gear ratio those wouold both make sense. yes being geared just a hair lower the non autobahn could pull an extra 3-5 mph or so top end on the autobahn

seems like the Autobahn should see a slight decrease in gas mileage as well, with the different gear ratio. Anyone have any statistics on what that might have been?

i bet the difference is no more than 1 mpg but yea non autobahns should get better economy considering the equal power

With the gear ratios being approx 6% different (3.48 / 3.71) I would expect a similar difference in gas mileage on long hauls. I agree with lance maybe 1 mpg?
It was explained to me a while back..."the Autobahn is quicker from 0-100 than the non-bahn, but the non-bahn would go faster at the same rpm's" and its restricted to 109mph.

Seems like a lot of work to gain some quickness and top speed. How often do we have a chance to go past 110 anyway?

I'm a non autobahner, i've hit the 110 governor (which does suck). But besides the top speed limiter (which i'm going to have removed) on a full highway trip I can pull 26-28 MPG and get around 22-25 mixed driving. And how high gas prices our i'm actually happy to have the 3.41 gears, the only thing that sucks is the limiter which is no biggie to have removed in the near future. Plus if you look at the 1/4 mile thread and look between the non-autobahns and autobahns it actually seems the non's do a little better in the 1/4 actually!

I took Zach's Grand Am on the strip quite easily, I don't see this being any different. But you don't have the 3.4 DOHC anymore so I guess its a moot point, huh? ;D

I still dont understand the reasoning behind wanting to go that fast andy, but whatever its your life.. It's not even really about going that fast, hell the fastest I usually go is about 80. It's just nice to know the car can actually go what it can w/o being limited.

Eh, give or take 40 more HP with the DOHC variant, and a buddy owns it, pretty sure hed let me borrow it to show you what it can do Are you talking about the PRE 3.8 SC Grand prix GTP years 3.4 DOHC (like 97 & under). Because if so my friends mom used to own a 1996 GTP red, sporty car actually was 'peppy' but a car that runs low 15's and MAYBE high 14's top from the factory I don't consider too be that fast (and yes that means I don't even consider the aurora fast). Now if you wanted to show some speed can't you borrow cars with anymore power then 215 horsepower? I mean my dads old 95 Z28 Camaro, THAT was fast would run 13s all day long, and 12.9's on a good run w/ traction and all it had was intake/exhaust/chip was an automatic too.

Still all the SS has is the extra 25 ponies from the ramair package, it would still smoke it. The reason I assumed SS is because most 35 Anniv. Editions are SS's my dad almost picked up this 2001 MINT hugger orange SS convertible, it had SUPER RARE SLP options (that were on the car FACTORY!) including: SLP eibach 1.5 inch lowering springs all around & SLP Racing Struts/Shocks, SLP thicker mm swaybars, SLP Special Catback exhaust that added 35 hp+, and also the tips/outlets came out in the center of the bumper (rather than each side) and rare tan interior w/ special POWER cloth seats that had 35th anniversary edition embroidered in them. And this was about in late 2002 and they only wanted like 26k and it only had like 10k miles!
Still to this day my kicks himself for not buying that camaro because that car would be worth alot of money for a collector with those special SLP options (that i've yet too see on any other SS, let alone ANY camaros)
