www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=101714While reaching overseas is key to expansion in today's auto market, personally I think GM is making a mistake trying to buy out Fiat. Fiats are horrible little cars. There has to be a better brand GM should shoot for.

WHY IN THE WORLD IS GM TRYING TO ACQUIRE FIAT? !!!! This car hasn't been available in the USA for over 20 years. Its durability, reliability and such would rate less than zero on a scale of 0 to 10. Back in the 1970s, I once worked on a Fiat X1-9. It had an aluminum block and head that I think had about the same strength as cardboard. I stripped spark plug hole threads when putting in a plug by merely tightening the plug finger tight!!!!! FIAT = Fear, Insecurity, Anxiety & Tension!!!!! __________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

We had numerous Fiats, 131, 124, 128, etc. when I was a teenager. This was in the stoneage and we drove with our feet on the ground like Fred Flintstone. Anyway, back then Fiat was a really cool car, well before the X19 days. They had decent pickup, great handling, and excellent crashworthyness. Remember this was all before Detroit was forced to build cars that didn't rust out in 3 years and get more than 8 mpg, think 1968 Ford Fairlane.
We moved to Hondas in the 70's as Fiat took it's nosedive. Fiat as a car and a company has never kept pace with the rest of the world, mostly because of Italian economic conditions, labor issues et al. Fiat has been the perenial retarded stepchild, fostered on one international company after another, with none completely accepting ownership. Through it all they continue to build cars, many wish they would just quit.

I can remember back then. Zipping round the country style main roads in England in my Fiat 128. Great acceleration, corner on a dime, good top speed. What a rush Or my Auto union BMV two stroke, three cylinder, FWD, with a semi automatic clutch. King of the road I was.

Oh, I believe GM ended up paying Fiat $2,000,000,000 to end any dispute about their being forced to purchase the company.
Seemed like extortion to me. Wonder how much it would have cost to buy them and then sell off all the assets?

That is ludicrous; I don't understand why GM even got involved.
