What do you guys think? The price looks good, as do the little GM badges (thankfully they aren't colored or gaudy as I feared they would be). Looks pretty nice to me.

Not really official photos there, but rather photos of the car in a lot. I think the car looks nice, but not necessarily in silver there. It's a cool idea for a car, a lot of bang for the buck. Of course, I can't help but compare the sticker price to the price of my 'vette and think of how much more car I have.
But am I crazy, or isn't the car supposed to come with a 2.0L supercharged and intercooled Ecotech?

But am I crazy, or isn't the car supposed to come with a 2.0L supercharged and intercooled Ecotech? You brought up some good points Bob. These aren't actually official pictures, but this is the final product, sitting in the back of a dealer's lot ready to be sold. So, technically, you could just call them "production-ready" photos. Used cars are almost always better deals than new cars. This isn't much car compared to your 'Vette, but it's not a bad price compared to the direct rivals. Only the SS Supercharged models come with the supercharger and intercooler, and they are I believe $1500 or so more expensive. This is the regular SS (a coupe version of the regular SS, and a supercharged sedan will be available later in the fall). This has the new 170 hp 2.4 HO Ecotec that's new for 2006 in the Cobalt and its platform-mate the Saturn Ion. I know, confusing, but it wouldn't be GM if it were simple, now would it?

Are you serious?? I guess you must be, as the sticker confirms it. SS and then SS Supercharged? That's so dumb... That's what they did with the Monte Carlo too, though the original "SS" before the supercharger never should have had the SS moniker.
They could call the 2.4L a GT or Z24 or something instead.

That just looks like a factory riced out version of the Cobalt Sedan, I dunno about the US releases of the Cobalt, but the Canadian version of the Cobalt SS is From GMCanada.com

A factory riced-out Cobalt. This is just the sedan version of the tamer, normally-aspirated SS version.

Eh... I'll leave it. It looks like something made by Toyota or Nissan, IMO. American cars are losing all their originality.

This is what GM came up with to replace the Cavalier, come on. I'm I seeing the right price, $21,455? For a 4 banger? You could get the new Dodge Charger for about $23,500 (V6 is standard) or a Dodge Stratus with a V6 for only $18,500 with the employee discount and both look much better then the Cobalt, IMA.

Well, you've got to remember, GM has its own share of discounts (meaning the Cobalt will never be sold near that $21k sticker price). It's all product. Not everyone shops with the mindset that they can get such-and-such for less. If they did, new car sales would be nonexistent and used cars would rule the planet (I know, a paradox...). You can get a fully loaded Impala SS Supercharged for $24k right now, despite the $31k sticker, which is right in line with a base Acura RSX, mid-line Camry, a mid-line Accord, a base Altima 3.5SE, etc. It's all in what you like...

Also, neither of the cars mentioned will come with a sunroof, leather, automatic headlights, driver information centery, Recaro sport seats, traction control, and other luxury accomodations at those prices or at any price. This Cobalt is loaded to the gills, remember, whereas most midsize sedans only start at $21k.

All good points. . . but I would trade any of those features for a V6. ;D But thats me, I'd take power/speed over luxury any day.

Probably faster than that 6 banger charger with a slushbox. They shouldve just left it with a hemi as the only motor. Whoever buys it with the six doesnt know anything about the old muscle car, thats for sure.
