GM will end its employee discount offer on August 1........ GM to End Employee Discount Program 07.27.2005, 06:19 PM WHAT: General Motors Corp. said Wednesday it will end its employee-discount incentive program at the close of business on Monday, as scheduled. WHAT IT IS: The program, which allows consumers to pay the same price as GM employees, began June 1. It had been set to end July 5, but GM extended the deal through Aug. 1. The discount applies to most GM vehicles and helped boost GM's sales by 41 percent in June. WHAT'S NEXT: Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler AG matched GM's employee-discount deal in July but haven't said whether they'll extend the deals beyond Monday, when they're set to expire. www.forbes.com/business/businesstech/feeds/ap/2005/07/27/ap2161404.html

And it did its job extremely well. Excellent marketting idea by GM, now apparently most 06's will be selling cheaper then 05s at this time last year.

GM is ending the discount because, according to CNN, they are running out of cars.
Ford and Chrysler are following suit.

Well, GM's sales were up a ton, but not their profits... So it didn't really work all that well. However, lower pricing removing the room for incentives, seemed like a good idea 10 years ago. I don't know why they inflate their MSRPs to make wiggle room for incentives. Sell a nice car for less and you won't need incentives...

Don't worry, I have no doubt that deal will eventually roll around again (just like 0% financing and any other successful marketing campaign). Some I work with who has friends in the car business said the next big offer will be employee discount PLUS 0% financing!

WHAT: General Motors Corp. said Wednesday it will end its employee-discount incentive program at the close of business on Monday, as scheduled. Not surprisingly, I am now seeing commercials that say "GM IS NOW EXTENDING ITS EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT OFFER FOR A LIMITED TIME!" I'm sure that was planned, along with the Forbes article initially stating the offer was ending soon. All marketing schemes to make anxious consumers think they MUST go out and buy a new car NOW!

It works. I would have definitely bought a new Olds but . . . they aren't there.
