A Yonkers, NY officer's Crown Vic was equipped with a gas tank shield. This certainly saved the cop's life when the Crown Vic was rear ended by a drunk on the New York State Thruway in Yonkers, NY during a traffic stop. Read about that here.

WOW, lucky indeed! Ford has had a class-action lawsuit against them for years, related to Crown Vic gas tanks exploding after collisions. It's a good thing Yonkers, NY had cruisers with the upgraded equipment!

Well, ok, so if a car is rear ended by a drunk and catches fire, then any other rear-end collision with a drunk involved will result in the same?
Any car full of gasoline can burn in a crash if the crash is severe enough. The Crown Vic thing has little to do with facts about the car.

Yeah when my dads jaguar was rear ended at 54mph it didnt explode (and car barely even looked damaged for that matter) becuase it had a steel shield around the tank.
Cops should have always had those shiels.
