We should as quickly as possible set a simple redirect page from v2 to v1 so all the newest members, and some returning old ones, can find the forum. Someone certainly has a empty page available to host the www.auroraclubna.com/forum/index.php name. Steven?

Of course i can host anything you want... do you mean a domain pointer though? If thats what you want, either Bob or whoever the heck set up the domain (Hopefully not the canaca mofos) has the login & pass for that. We cannot setup a redirect from V2 if we canteven log in over there ya know....unless you are thinking something else but my brain is fried right now. Anything there is someone wants to host, just email me and i get it up as soon as i see the mail.

We can point the whois record to a new dns server. The site name "auroraclubna.com" was not purchased through Canaca. However, I can't set up a redirect currently as that means Canaca would have to host the redirect page.

Yes 40, that's what I mean. One of the few things I know about the web is how a domain name works and I would think all we need is a hosting page for Whois to direct the domain to, which could then just be a redirect page to v1. Someone would have to temporarily offer a page on their shared server, one that has a plan already in place for multiple domains. This plan only works if done quickly before more members are lost, and would only be a temporary quick fix. But perhaps others think it's not that important.

Well, someone needs to have a hosting site that can handle it. And it will take hours to days for it to work for people. Whois/DNS records are typically cached by the various DNS servers along the way, maybe for minutes, hours, days depending. It's a good idea, though. But it may be that doing it quickly isn't really possible. But if someone tells me where to point it, I'll point it.

Since proboards is free, is there a way to post a page here? One with the auroraclubna.com address? There would be ads on it, but who cares. Here's a free one with good reviews, banner ads only, no popups: www.100webspace.com/freeplan.html"This is the best freeweb host I have ever seen. They have a lot of great features and the bandwidth is enough for a pure personal web page. Speed is great, costumer support is fantastic. Their PHP, My SQL service is remarkable." "YES! it realy works - and it realy has 100MB storage AND it supports FTP AND it supports PHP" "This provider has very much clearly arranged functions like MYSQL, Email, Front page extensions, PHPMy Admin, Password Protected Areas, IP Manager, SSH Manager and much more...), but they have very big problems with too much users who want to access their mysql database.... All in all this server is good, but they should fix the userlimit for the MYSQL..." etc.

The site name "auroraclubna.com" was not purchased through Canaca. I believe the easiest thing would be to use domain forwarding which would automatically send (redirect) anyone trying to reach www.auroraclubna.com to aurorah.proboards20.com. Domain forwarding is usually set up through the site where the domain name was purchased, so whoever has access to it can set it up. . . JimW???

We don't get domain forwarding. We could purchase it from Illusionfxnet for $4. I'm not sure if you wanted to pull the page "/forum/index.php" that it would help, though. You'd come here and get a page not found or something similar.

$4 is a great deal and to boot, a fine courtesy for those who are out there wondering what is going on.

Yes, the "forum/index.php" page that everyone has as a shortcut for on their browser would need to be redirected to either this forum, or if that won't work, to Amanda's page that links to this forum (assuming that link was never updated). If someone needs the $4 tell me where to pay it and I will. Common sense and common courtesy would be the order of the day here. Many of our members don't have the old link having never been here or having not saved the link. I would think it quite obvious that they are not posting here when they were active last week.

I did a lot of googles before finding out where everyone ended up. I don't know how search engines work but there must be a way to make this site show up in the google results. anyone know how?

That isn't how domains work. /forum isn't part of the domain. That's part of the http request. DNS lookups just map a domain name to an IP address.
Anyway, it's done. So far it's not working for me, but it takes time for DNS servers to re-request cached info. So if it works for anyone, please let us know! Or if it doesn't work but you get redirected all jacked up or something (something other than the "Suspended" page) let me know that too. Thanks.

Just tried the link and in IE it gives me "The page cannot be displayed" error, in Mozilla it just says "www.auroraclubna.com could not be found."

great... :-\
I still get directed to canaca
It could be the canaca redirect sucks and is falling over. When I do an nslookup, I still get a canaca IP, which means it's still cached dns to canaca. I am also getting the time out in Firefox. So maybe the server we were on is so sad that it can't even host a suspended redirect!

This should work now. In fact, it should work even with /forum or /forum/index.php or whatever.
Sorry it took so long.

open up a command session "Start -> Run... -> 'cmd'" and type "ipconfig /flushdns"
However, it can take hours to days to flush your dns cache. And since people reading this post don't need the redirect, it may be a few days before people who don't know about this site come here from the old one. Not much can be done about that...

Thanks for all your work on my suggestion. I hope it didn't cause you too much consternation, or was at least a good learning experience. Great job! I hope we see a lot of our old friends again now.

I hope we see a lot of our old friends again now. Me too... we're still missing some regulars from the old (I mean new, no I mean old) site. I'm so confused! Anyway, ITGeek jumps to mind along with some other frequent posters from the v2 forums. Jim, did you ever send out a mass e-mail to all v2 members (or is there any way to access that info with the account suspended)? I never got anything... not that *I* need it, but others may have been left out as well.

A mass email would be great, if, those email addresses are known by someone.
