When I went into Introductions, I saw a popup. Everytime I go in there I get the same pop up. When I go into threads in introductions I get the pop up, when I get out of threads I get the pop up.
This pop up is nice but is starting to nerve me, that da ding and having to click there is buggin me a lot. I don't know if I'm the only one...

That may fix it, but its not getting to the root of the problem. Any of the Admins have any ideas? It would be ok if it only came up once per session.

Yeah, Firefox isn't going to work for me. I depend on the MSN explorer, I would honestly rather just not go into the Intro's to avoid that hassle than haveing to completely switch which browser I have... I kno it sounds bad but it's true...

Doesn't matter anyway. Firefox 2.0 on my laptop has the dumb popup anyway...

I get that same pop up in Introductions. I'm on AOL. It doesn't bother me. I just click on it & it's gone.

The popup is a little annoying. I just started seeing it yesterday. Thought it was for new members so that if they wanted to post a question they would go to the proper place and not in the intro section. Possibly so the site managers wouldn't have to move threads to their proper location so often.

Someone must have recently added that.
It's a .js alert box I believe, so Firefox isn't going to block it.

Your pop up blocker won't affect it as it's a java script applet. I thought I must have deleted some cookie in my clean up procedures and it was just me as I only saw it once (don't remember what page), but I just replicated the message box by going to Intros.

How deep do proboards allow the admins/owners to go for control. Are you able to edit scripts and sql tables? If so this can be an easy fix.

I ADDED THE POP-UP BOX, but if it's that annoying I can remove it... my reasoning was nicely summarized by algonquin: Thought it was for new members so that if they wanted to post a question they would go to the proper place and not in the intro section. Possibly so the site managers wouldn't have to move threads to their proper location so often. Honestly I didn't realize so many members (all of you ) checked the Intros area that often, and would be affected (i.e. annoyed) by the pop-up box. I'll remove it. To kinda answer your question austinator, we do have control over a certain amount of scripts/codes on the board... although Proboards has many proprietary standard features that we cannot alter.

Interesting thought, I'm not getting the .js pop up anymore.

Yay, it's gone, away with you .js script, be gone into eternity, or maybe come back in a more improved version.... see, on to sumthin here.
Anyways, thanks for taking that down, and yes, I check the intros about every day, or whenever there is a new thread started. I like to know who's coming up, you know.

If you did want to put it back up you could just add an sql column and only run the popup if they have a 0 in the column. After they've seen it the number changes to 1. That or only run it if they have 0 posts...or not at all. Up to you guys. If you need any help w/scripting let me know.

Thanks for the offer austinator, we may take you up on that in the future! For now I added a couple "Read Me First" threads that should cover the basics for new members.

If we did something like that, I'd rather see it happen on registration. Really though, there's no reason new people can't read a sticky that says "Read me first"...
