We had a time period last year (I think?) when we were trying to arrange dedicated chat times (Tues. nights at 7pm Eastern, etc). A few people would show up and we'd chat about the weather or whatever, but it never really panned out into anything. Detailed automotive questions seem to work better in the forum format, apparently!

Yep works OK for me too, just returned from there a few minutes ago!! Looks like you need to be fairly up-to-date on your Java tho. My wife looks to be changing her website over to Proboards and wanted to give the chatroom a try as they use theirs alot on NASCAR race days!

My wife looks to be changing her website over to Proboards and wanted to give the chatroom a try as they use theirs alot on NASCAR race days! FYI, the chat we have was a manual add-on before ProBoards started to officially include a chat. So their chat may be different/better/worse.

I don't know why or who I want to chat with but I am going to start leaving chat open in a separate window.
Starting now!

If you have trouble with the chat it is possible your firewall it blocking it. It looks like it is using a Java IRC client. So if you have Java installed it is likely your firewall is killing it. Many do this without asking since IRC is widely used to talk to zombie machines and few people use it anymore.

I could see the advantage of chat is to have quick way for a one on one troubleshooting session. Especially with the use of a laptop (mine). I could see doing a difficult job and having the chat open, talking to them once in a while telling them what I'm doing, and get instant feedback. It doesn't take up the space that a new thread with a bajillion posts would. Then again, if it was helpful, it wouldn't be searchable...
Every-time I try to use it, never works. I am on a Mac and my Java is up to date, so it should work. My firewall is off too. Never mind, I tried it with FireFox and it worked great. I don't know, but Safari isn't the best web browser. I love it because it looks good and has the best autofill, but it just doesn't work with most sites. Oh well.
