When I was working on my front end about two months ago and had the front tires off I thought, I hate dirty calipers. They looked rusty and had break dust all over them.
I don't know why but I took a rag with some Back to Black on it and rubbed it onto the non-business parts of the caliper. Basically, what you can see with the tires mounted.
They cleaned up awesomely and they still look great even after several snow storms. It returned the calipers back to a gun-metal gray color.
A free tip. I know. Need before and after pics.

Weird... I'd think it might get gross when they heat up and that BtB bakes on there?
Hey, from your sig, you aren't making a voodoo doll of my car, are you? Hoping it gets in a non-exhaust-damaging wreck?

I put a very light film on, so I don't think it's a problem. I'll have to do the rears (before and after) and post them here. I wish no ill to come to you or your car, A40. Just acknowledging how freaking awesome the exhaust is.

I used regular Rustoleum(sp.) black spray paint on the front calipers a while ago and they're still black. I wasn't expecting to work, the only heat thing, but they're holding up nice.

On the 2nd gen they are already powdercoated. That explains why they cleaned up so well. I'd like to know what it is in Back to Black that is keeping them looking so good though.

Not sure about whats in it although I smell coconut every time I use it. Theres some black plastic parts and stuff on my motorcycle that I use it for and it works great. I love the stuff. Used it on the fender flares of a friends Jeep and she couldn't believe the difference.

I think the impetus for trying this on the caliper was my reading in the directions that things need not be black to benefit.
I was looking for something that would protect it from the inevitable film of road salt that invades the undercarriage every winter. So far, so good (two months).

Yeah thats just it, it will work on just about anything and provide a nice protective layer. Good thought on the calipers. Might have to try that when Im doing the brakes this weekend.
