Read some reviews and recommendations including bobtheoilguy.com. Decided to go with the K&N Filter. I usually change the oil every 7,500 miles and use a premium filter and premium synthetic oil(Pennsoil Platinum this time). First time I changed the oil in the Aurora, since buying it and first time I used a K&N filter.
The filter on the 95 is in a loacation where it is difficult to get an oil wrench at the filter. The K&N has a 1 inch bolt on the top of the filter. With a socket wrench, it was really easy to install the filter, and I expect it will be easy to remove. For this reason alone, I will use K&N on the rora.
BTW, Pennzoil has a $15 rebate on a case of Platimum oil. I bought the oil at Walmart for $4/quart. After rebate, the oil(8 quarts, 1/2 a quart left over) will cost me $17. Not bad for premium synthetic. PM me and I will email you the rebate form, it is good through 12/31/06

You can use any oil filter on the Aurora V-8 when you have an end cap oil filter wrench. It fits over the end of the oil filter & gets a grip on the fluting. I use the K&D 2790, as shown here.

I have one, but the one I have does not fit the Aurora filter. I thought the K&N head was a good idea. However, I chose the K&N filter for its performance.

Thanks for the recommendation ski, I've been wondering what to use for my next change and these sound like some good bets. I've used Mobil1 most often but am not totally attached to it for any reason... definitely interested in the Penn oil rebate, PM sent.

I've been wanting to try the K&N oil filter for some time now. It's just a lil' bit more then the Fram Double Guard I ususally use...

I recently had the oil in the Vette changed from Mobile 1 to Valvoline Max Life Full Synthetic in the Vette. I do not like it and will change it as reasonably possible. I can tell a huge difference in the temperature changes! The Mobile 1 oil would always stay right around the same temp as the engine coolant give or take +5 degrees. This max life takes forever to cool down once it gets hot, then a little stop and go driving and it heats right back up! I don't like it at all.
I use Mobil 1 in all cars, including our previous Bravada. I truly think it saved the engine when the water pump went out. I really do trust it. The only oil I'd put above it is Amsoil but it's so much harder to get. Not as easy as going to Wally World and picking some up- gotta find a dealer. (My dad is one but he's 2000 miles away.) I'll never use Penzoil! Their conventional oil turns into sludge.

I just switched from regular Havoline 10W-30 (its GF-4) to Mobil 1 Clean 5000. I used Havoline for the last 3 changes. Before was some other Valvoline VR-1 Racing Oil and some other crazy choices. I don't run synthetics anymore in my Aurora. From what I have read, synthetics will tend to leak more, and my driveway backs that up. Anyway, what a difference with the Mobil 1 makes. I dunno if this is a good thing, but there seems to be more bottom end, as well as it running better. Stays cooler as well.

I tried a K&N oil filter once... Nothing special. I don't think I'll be buying one again.

It's a pretty darn good dino oil with an aggressive ad pack so there's not a thing wrong with using it. The oil consumption from switching to M1 dies down with one or two oil changes, you just have to hang with it for a while if you change from dino oil to a synthetic. The K&N oil filter is quite like their air filters, a well built unit with lots of flow and somewhat less good filtering than the best. If you change your oil and filter regularly the K&N is a viable option, certainly much, much better than the cheap store brand garbage. I like the Mobil 1 filter as a good compromise between flow and filter media.

I just stick with the AC Delco PF-58 on the Aurora, and the newer magnetic drain plug. I do use Mobil 1. Since there's such a balance between flow and filtering and how the bypass or drainback works, I've always prefered to play it safe and stay with the factory solution. However, on the 'vette I do use a Mobil 1 filter due to a) the factory filter's poor drainback valve and b) the Mobil 1 filter is factory black, the AC Delco is not anymore. Like Marc said, though, you can buy a filter "socket" of sorts that goes right over the end. But I find if I put them on hand-tight, I can remove them by hand.

Are the Mobil oil filters available everywhere? I can't recall ever seeing one.

They were superceded and now the northstars take a PF-61 AC filter.
