I am looking for a chrome paint product to paint my center caps with. They are plastic, and we do have a place locally that chromes plastic, but not on a small potatoes scale like me. I know chrome paint can never reach the mirror quality of the real chroming process, but I need something that looks better then silverflake painted caps on chrome rims It looks downright silly in direct sunlight. I heard about some Italian paint product that was used on that mirror chrome BMW M3 seen at 2003 SEMA show, but its wicked expensive. Anyone suggest a product or method to at least simulate a chrome finish?

JimW....Duplicolor makes a chrome paint. I have used it. It's not as brilliant as real chrome. You get a fairly good appearance with several coats. See it at the site noted below. www.duplicolor.com/products/gold-chrome.html__________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

Since it probably won't match up, you could always try a different color. Possibly a pearl white, though that might look like crap, or you could try a grey or darker metal look. Or maybe a carbon fiber applique (would look nice if it were not a lot of it). Just a thought.

Tried color matching...looks like crap, tried silverflaking...as it is currently and it looks like crap in direct sunlight. There is to much of a contrast between mirror finish chrome and silverflake silver, even tho it shimmers.
I want something that closely resembles chrome. Thanks Marc, I'll take a look at that.

I've never seen a 'chrome' paint that's really chrome. The chrome strip on my door sill is scuffed up and it'll be nice to restore it.
