For those of you with 18" rims, how is the ride compared to with the stock 16" tires? I wouldn't mind the look of the 18's, but is the ride jarring compared to stock? also, how much better is the handling? Did you notice a decrease in acceleration or gas mileage? any other negatives you can think of?

i can tell it rides a little rougher, partly because with my 18" tires, they can handle up to 50psi, so i usually have them around 42psi or so to save gas and wear on the tires. compared to my 16" tires i have at around 36-37psi, as for handling, i cant really say, i dont drive my car very hard, when i do take corners fairly fast, everything feels good, also, my tires are wider which gives me pretty good traction, 255/45, instead of 225-60. as far as mileage or accleration goes, i haven't noticed any negatives involving that. I love them though, i couldn't wait for the winter to get over with so i could put them back on

I dont have 18's on my car, but I'd be willing to bet that a lot of the ride quality and handling depends on the size & brand of tire that you get to wrap around the wheel. A big mistake that a lot of people make when they are buying a new set of custom wheels, is not getting a good enough tire to compliment the rim. In my eyes, tires are the most important thing on a car, because that is what contacts the road! Definetly do your research on this one. Because of the size of wheel you are looking at you have a lot of options on different tires and wheels for that matter.

indeed mission, with 18"+ tires, you generally have better quality tire options from what i've seen as they are generally used in performance applications, but i'm sure there are some crappy ones out there, I like my continental tires, although they wear really quick. Luckely i got used tires for very cheap, and they had about 70-80% tread left when i got them, so i made out pretty well, paying $150 for all four They sell new for abour $200 per tire.

18s will probably ride more roughly than 16s. You can, as has been mentioned go a long way toward reducing the difference via tire choice. Both of the Second Gen stock tire options (the Michelin Energe MXV4 Plus and Goodyear Eagle RS-A) are available in 18 inch sizes. The Energy only comes in one 18" size, but the Eagle RS-A (your stock 3.5 tire) comes in several 18" sizes, as well as limited 19" and 20" sizes. www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=Goodyear&model=Eagle+RS-AHave you driven a 4.0? The 3.5 and 4.0 have identical suspension components and tuning. The only difference related to suspension is the 3.5's 16" wheels and tires versus the 4.0's 17" package. The most common complaint in reviews of the 2001 Aurora when it was new had to do with the 4.0's rougher ride, louder tire noise, and more dramatic thumping over breaks in the road surface (i.e. highway/bridge expansion joints). It is quite loud, I have to say. I believe it was Car and Driver who said in a comparison test of the 4.0 that it felt like it had cast iron in the suspension because of the heavy feel and loud thumping going over bumps. I doubt 18s could make a much more noticeable change.

someone on the Bonneville Club did a quick photoshop for me.. this is what I'm looking at. They're $148/wheel.

I'd go with the chrome finish, myself. I think that really helps the Aurora's looks.
My favorite wheel on there (for the Aurora, as well as the Intrigue and my Galant) is Enkei's GF1.
Also, AT Italia's Inox in chrome looks very nice. It's at the Tire Rack.

No offense Dan, but I don't think that wheel works for me. I don't like the lip around that can be seen on the inside of the rim.

Ok, been rolling 18's for a few thousand miles. Here is what I found:
Ride is slightly more harsh but sporty not painful. The BFGs are very quiet. Handling is great though I don't push my 4000lbs sled really hard, just a little faster than most drivers. Best mileage with the 18s is 24 MPG, AVG is 22 (Freeway)
