My '98 Aurora had the common high-speed vibration symptom @ 62-78 MPH. After trying everything to solve this including the Hunter machine, a tech @ Precision Frame here in San Jose says that the left front and right rear tires are egg-shaped. The other 2 are marginal. The tires have less than 800 miles on them and I will return to Goodyear for replacement. I can understand a bad tire in a batch, but two? I run Goodyears on everything I own, including the muscle car. I am going to reconsider brands.

WE always like Good year tires too. They have a comfy ride but my husband does not like how they handle.

That's unfortunate... Hopefully they will get it straigtened out on future runs of the tires. Dunlop seemed to have some problems when they debuted the SP Sport A2 tires. They seemed to be the talk of the Aurora community at the time, but I guess no one is interested in them anymore. :-\
Goodyear is a company I want to like, but I just can't really. Their Eagle ultra performance tires are top-notch, though. I am considering the Eagle F1 Supercar tires for the 'vette. But their passenger car tires just don't do it for me. I really hope they make a resurgence, and the Assurance tires look like a step in that direction. Hopefully your problems with them are just a fluke.

I am now running the Goodyear Assurance tires on my '97 since February of this year, about 8k miles. I've been very happy with them so far. They replaced Dunlop A2s. I much prefer the Goodyears. Much quiter and the handling is better (at least to what the Dunlops were towards the end).
I have run a lot of Goodyears over the years on my various Olds and have generally been happy. I did have a set of GT+4s on a car that wore very quickly, but that's the only low point I can think of...

Yeah, Goodyears have been put on Oldsmobiles for a long time - from the factory - and they give a great ride.

My experience with Goodyear's is summed up with 1 word, J-U-N-K!!! My bonnie rattled and shook on the highway with tires balanced, rotated, replaced, etc... under warranty, I finally gave up and when they wore out, I replaced them with Michelin X-Ones which were great tires that lasted almost 100,000 miles. They gave up a bit of handling but since I'm on the highway every day, it did not matter. Definitely get them to give you new tires or to refund your money. DON'T GIVE UP!!! It's your money, you are buying their product and you should be happy with your purchase.

Vibration at highway speed is common to g-body cars equipped with goodyears. Tire replacement and in some cases front control arms solve the problem.

Those replacement control arms just have big dampers attached to them. I would not want them on my car, as it's more unsprung weight... Road force balancing is the way to go for sure. And of course, tires that are round.

My vibration went away for the most part after I got rid of the horrible stock Good year RSA tires at 43,000 miles. They were SHOT. The tires were actually falling apart from the inside out!

Sorry to hear that Dan, I love the Goodyear RSA's on my 01. 48,000 miles and still looking good! Wierd how that happens....

The same is true of the Michelin Energy MXV4 Plusses. Some people hate them and think they wear too fast, some people think they are great. I like mine, and they'd be a strong candidate when it's time to get new tires.

I've been through a quite a few sets of the Goodyear shoes... I thought they were always good on dry pavement, but they never lasted much over 40,000 miles. I ran a set of Michelin MXV4 Plus and one of them made it over 100,000. Given the age and mileage now, my last set is from the folks at "Yokohama", the Avid 4VS. Surprisingly, they handle really well, work fine in the rain, and cost a lot less than the other "name" tires. No regrets in buying them. Keith

Why some love and others hate the Goodyears? Simple, some tires are made in the morning, others after 3 'o clock

Rich at Girrard Goodyear in Los Gatos, California replaced the 2 tires that were egg-shaped. No balking. I'll put some miles on it and report back.
