So the tire place that broke my center cap about 3 weeks ago still hadn't gotten one in. I've been in there about twice a week since then and they kept telling me to silicone it until it came in. Last time I was in was about a week ago, so I decided since I was up in the area I’d stop in today. The guy told me that he still hasn’t gotten one in, and to just go to the dealer and order it. Then just bring in the bill and he’ll pay me for it. No problem.
So I went to the dealer and ordered a (as in one, 1) center cap for $65 + tax. Total: $70. Now, any person in their right mind (IMO) would not pay $70 for a plastic center cap. But hey, doesn’t make a difference to me, I’m not technically paying for it. So I gave them the money, and headed straight back to the tire joint.
I got back, and showed them the bill. The guy's jaw dropped to the floor in amazement. He couldn’t believe that a center cap could possibly cost that much. He said he had never seen a center cap that expensive, ever. Well it was, and not having much of a choice, he gave me my $70 and I was happily on my way.
Boy I wish I had a camera to take a picture of that guys face when he saw the bill. That oughta teach ‘em to be a little more careful in the future.
Almost the same thing happend to me, They just put it on wrong and when i left after getting new tires i got home at the cap was gone. Went back the same day and told them, three days later there was one there waiting for me. the wheels look bad when you have the center caps missing...
I had a break inspection (not that there was anything wrong, i just wanted to make sure everything with the car was in order). Anyways, they put the cap on wrong, and when I drove the car away I could hear (and even feel) some clanky thing in the back left tire. That moment I thought I was going to kill them, becuase I gave them a 100% car, and I feared that some fool did a joy ride, or something horrible with it. In the end they fixed it in 3 min, but I would have definatly made them pay if the cap was gone or worse.
