255's even, but you may have rubbing issues. I run 255's on my Classic, but not sure if the wheel wells are the same.
245 would be a safe bet for sure.

I ran 95mushroom's 255's for about a week and no issues whatever, other then the ability to take turns at highway speeds ... Though, those tires were on 8" wide rims (GXPs). For a 7.5", yea, 245 is the widest. EDIT: After looking at the specs for 255/45/17's, approved rim width range is 7-9".

You can put 255 on a 7" wide rim in general? Or just that specific 255?

"Approved" by who?
It is approved for a 103 year old man to marry an 18 year old girl... But that doesn't mean it's all morally responsible.

Todd was looking the specs up on tirerack.com. LinkAlso note, that's for 255/50/17, not 255/45/17 as stated.

You can put 255 on a 7" wide rim in general? Or just that specific 255? Every tire is different. Check with the manufacturer to be sure. For example, I looked up 255/50-16s assuming he has a 3.5. BFGoodrich's g-Force says it's ok for a 7-9" rim. The Dunlop SP8000 says it's ok for 6.5-10" rims. In 255/45-17, the Goodyear GS-D3 is rated for 8-9.5" wide wheels. Also, to the OP, you didn't say which 2nd gen wheels, the 16 or 17's?
