Well, I got back from my roadtrip last night. All went smoothly, the car ran GREAT. It was me, three friends, each with an overnights-bag worth of stuff. Managed to get 29.7 MPG overall, doing between 70-80 the whole way, with lots of coasting. Made it all the way to kankakee, illinois on one tank, and all the way back on another. I thought that was awfully good for the amount of weight i had in the car, but it still pulled like it was empty. Just makes me love her that much more.

Is 29.7 good? I was thinking that pushing into the 30's was good, and that 29.7 was slightly higher than average.

Sounds like you enjoyed your adventure. The 29.7 mpg overall is awesome for a V8 weighing in at 4000 lbs plus passengers and gear on top of that. Alone you probably would have done 30 or better. Glad you had a great trip.

Wow i guess all that tune-up work before we left helped. Thanks a lot guys, but i can tell you this: I won't be taking any more 1000 mile trips in the near future, at least not if i'm the only one driving.

Preparation is key to a successful and enjoyable trip. My first road trip in my Aurora was in the fall of 2006 and covered 945 miles over two days touring New England. I was amazed at how comfortable the Aurora was and how rested I felt even after two 10 hour days behind the wheel. Even with a total hip replacement about two months prior to the trip.

I (alone) drove 8000miles in the span of 3 weeks. Half of the time I slept in the car at night as well.

My '97 is rated at 27 MPG highway on the window sticker so 29.7 is very good.
