well i took a little road trip today. drove exactly 300 miles (150 each way) i filled it up with the cheap stuff, 3 of us in the car and i used the a/c the entire time. i set the cruise for 65 (speed limit) i cleared the odometer, reset the fuel stuff on the DIC. the good news is that i got exactly 30 mph both ways! right on the nose - 300 miles - 10 gallons used. i checked it both ways plus left the DIC on avg fuel / mile it was accurate i got 30 mpg both ways. the oil pressure pretty much stayed at 25 - 30 psi the entire time. the temp gauge never once crawled above 200 even though it was 95 outside. the road trip was pretty flat with minimal hills. the bad news is as soon as i got to my destination one way the check engine light came on. its the first time it has ever came on since i have owned the car. i checked my oil before leaving. it was perfectly topped off. i checked it again before returning home and was still right at full. this is a 97 classic and i am freaking on the check engine light but figure it must not be anything too serious or it would have showed itself after 150 miles i would think. car runs fine, has 113 k on it. i guess the light could have a million things to set it off. i dont know where to look first and i sure cant afford a bunch of work on it with my measely disability check

i guess the light could have a million things to set it off. Maybe not a million, but close. Get it scanned - other members report that you can get it scanned for free at a number of auto supply houses, in the hope that they get to sell you the needed parts.

That's more or less what you want them to do. Hook it up, scan it, and see what codes come up. Get the Codes & Description. Often times I've heard of people just coming home with the description and they're left scratching their heads..

O2 Sensors, EGR Valve, etc... Everytime my 95 did that it was emissions related.

Remember just because an o2 sensor throws a code, doesn't necessarily mean that it's bad and needs immediate replacement. Sometimes misfires or other engine faults can throw an o2 code. Personally I'd reset the code and SES light (which Autozone probably did) and see if it returns. Could've just been a one-time thing. In the 3+ years I've had my Aurora, it's thrown misfire codes on 3 different occasions (setting off the SES light and running *really* crappy at times) but the problem always magically cured itself and the shop could never find anything wrong.

Agree with Scotty. I've been running my Aurora with a SES light for the rear (number 1 postion) O2 sensor for 4000-ish miles...

You filled it up with the "cheap stuff" may have been the original problem. My 1999 owners manual says always use "quality fuel". I had my SES light come on after I filled up at a place I normally don't get fuel. I made sure the fuel cap was tight and fueled up at my normal station with 93 octane and the light went out after a couple of tanks. It has not come on again and that was four years ago.

Yea i've got an O2 sensor code too. It's been on since i've had the car, and it always gets great mileage anyhow. All i ever found out was that my LTFT's were maxed out way back when i had a massive intake leak, which i fixed. Now my SES light comes and goes a few times a week. Never pay attention to it.
