Picture upload isn't working, but the row that is wider on an ODB-2 connector is the top, and pins 1-8 go across the top. This is the programming procedure for a gen 1 Aurora. 1. Turn OFF the ignition switch. 2. Use a fused jumper wire in order to jumper the Data Line Connector terminal 8 (BLK/WHT) to terminal 4 (BLK). 3. Close all of the doors. 4. Turn ON the ignition switch. The doors will cycle to lock. 5. Press and hold the following buttons on one of the transmitters: 6. - LOCK - UNLOCK 7. After a 30 second delay, the doors will lock and unlock. 8. In order to program extra transmitters, repeat Step 5. Important: Do not turn off the ignition. If the switch is turned off, the first transmitter becomes inoperative. 9. Disconnect the fused jumper wire from the DLC. I have a 97 Aurora. When I jump #4 and #8, close the door and turn the ignition switch to on; the door locks do not cycle and I can not procede with the rest of the programing. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

I've tried it in both directions, on the long side of the connector, and locks still don't cycle.

Verbatim from FSM: Transmitter Programming for Classics '96-'99 Important:
Before entering the programming mode, verify possession of all the transmitters you will be using on the vehicle. Once you program the transmitter, the memory erases. The other transmitters will not be functional until you program the transmitters again. You may program up to 4 transmitters.Perform the following procedure when adding new transmitters or replacing failed transmitters: 1. 5. Press and hold the following buttons on one of the transmitters: *LOCK *UNLOCK 6. After a 30 second delay, the doors will lock and unlock. 7. In order to program extra transmitters, repeat Step 5. Important:
Do not turn off the ignition. If the switch is turned off, the first transmitter becomes inoperative.
8. Disconnect the fused jumper wire from the DLC If this is not working for you, make sure you have the correct remote. There are a couple of FC IDs posted in this thread and around the forum. You can also make sure the contacts on battery are soldered to the circuit board well, they are known to break when dropping keys/remote. Check the fixing a broken remote sticky in the howto's section. Known working FC ID: KOBUT1BT GM Part # 25628814

I've tried counting from left to right and right to left, with the same result. Tomorrow I'll check the wiring to the connector (maybe something is loose or broken?). Is there a fuse I should check? Thanks for your input Sall. At this point everything helps.

maybe you got the wrong row? use a magnifying glass to read the numbers on the connector. If you definitely have the correct pins then you probably have a bad module. RAC or ECM.

I checked the numbers on the connector the first time I tried to program the fob. What and where are the RAC and ECM modules and how is their functionality assessed?

Actually IIRC, only the 95 has the RAC (Remote Accessory Controller), 96 on they changed the name but same function. I believe it's still in the trunk up around the rear speakers somewhere. Someone with your year model fsm should be able to point that and the ecm out.
Also before buying any modules, check for broken/loose wires, GROUND connections!!, unplug and replug connectors to remove years of oxidation, etc.
A scan tool that can talk to the ecm and body control module is invaluable. Tech1 (ebay) or Tech2(shop) will be invaluable in your travels with your Aurora.

Yes, it is a RFA module in '96-'99. They both inherently do the same functions. I second what Bob said about grounds and connections.

While trying to fix my nonfunctioning power windows today, I found 3 broken wires in the harness between the door and body. After repairing these wires I was able to successfully program my new remote. The windows on the other hand worked for about 2 minutes and stopped working again.

No, it's not the trunk lockout switch, and it's not the relay... The truck opens fine from the dash switch. And the trunk release on the key fob worked literally 30 seconds before I started the programming procedure (I had the paperclip I used in the trunk).
