The picture in the first post that gives the directions for 2nd gen auroras went down.. Does anyone happen to have the directions?
I just bought a new remote and would prefer to avoid the dealership.

Programming key fobs & keys. You need a tech 2 for this, though. Key Fobs................................................................................ Keys..............................................................................................

For what its worth I'm using a couple of junkyard key fobs for mine. One is from a 00 Eldorado, the other from a 90s Deville. Mine operate other than the fuel release(it sets my alarm off) and remote start(unless I'm doing it wrong). Lock/unlock/trunk all work as intended. Since I'm in good standing with the yard, I got them for free.

sucks how my dealer in my case wanted to ask for $75.00 for programming a remote on my wife's 2003 Chevy Malibu. I know one of the salesman and he hooked me up for $45 bucks instead.
Sucks I tell ya'.

Yeah, knowing it takes like 2 minutes, and somehow they are having trouble surviving when they charge 50-100 bucks for some bs like this, it's no wonder they FAILed at life. And we're still stuck paying the price.

I carefully followed all the steps, and nothing. Don't know if the battery in my fob is dead...guess I'll take it to town and test it on a battery tester first.

Went through all that a while back and kinda wondered what would happen if you shorted the wrong pins on the connector ...
PS ... I went with aftermarket fobs for a lot less than what GM wants for theirs. Only complaint is the buttons stick out a bit more than stock, and I keep opening the trunk when fiddling with the keys. Kinda akin to butt dialing the phone ... I hate that when that happens.

Not sure what could have went wrong. If it cycled the door locks then you used the correct pins. If not you screwed up and I have no idea the consequences. Check the IP1 and IP2 fuses though. Verbatim from FSM: Transmitter Programming for Classics '96-'99 Important:
Before entering the programming mode, verify possession of all the transmitters you will be using on the vehicle. Once you program the transmitter, the memory erases. The other transmitters will not be functional until you program the transmitters again. You may program up to 4 transmitters.Perform the following procedure when adding new transmitters or replacing failed transmitters: 1. Turn OFF the ignition switch. 2. Use a fused jumper wire in order to jumper the Data Line Connector terminal 8 (BLK/WHT) to terminal 4 (BLK). 3. Close all of the doors. 4. Turn ON the ignition switch. The doors will cycle to lock. 5. Press and hold the following buttons on one of the transmitters: *LOCK *UNLOCK 6. After a 30 second delay, the doors will lock and unlock. 7. In order to program extra transmitters, repeat Step 5. Important:
Do not turn off the ignition. If the switch is turned off, the first transmitter becomes inoperative.
8. Disconnect the fused jumper wire from the DLC If this is not working for you, make sure you have the correct remote. There are a couple of FC IDs posted in this thread and around the forum. You can also make sure the contacts on battery are soldered to the circuit board well, they are known to break when dropping keys/remote. Check the fixing a broken remote sticky in the howto's section. Known working FC ID: KOBUT1BT GM Part # 25628814

I am hoping it's just a fuse issue. Will check the IP1 and IP2 fuses. I know I put the wire in 4 & 8, but at one point I did touch something else while contorting under the dash and saw a tiny spark. Will look up where the IP1/2 fuses are and check them. Please please be an easy fix--wife is not happy!

Fused jumper next time! Those fuses are under the rear seat btw. I would not be too worried. Also if you blew that IP1 fuse the RFA module has no power so there is your reason for no programming.

...while contorting under the dash... Hate to be the one to ask this but, are you absolutely sure you didn't jump 9 and 13? In other words, were you looking at the connector upside down?

I was using the diagrams on here jumping the 4th from the right and 8th from right on the wide end of the OBD port....I have a suspicion that when I barely grazed one of the other terminals and caused a brief spark (didn't even feel it in the paper clip I was holding) that I popped a fuze. But it's 27˚ outside (and dark) so I'm waiting for the morning to pull that back seat off and see if those fuses are still intact like Sall suggested.

SALL & Others: UPDATE--luckily for me, the HVAC was easily fixed by replacing a blown fuse under the back seat (I think it was IP 2). HOWEVER, the door locks still don't work right. I hit the lock button and nothing happens. I hit the unlock button and the doors unlock just fine. I've checked every fuse I can find that looks even close to related to locking. What am I missing here? You guys have been a tremendous help!
