Greetings, Just ran across a problem with my recent purchase of a 2002 aurora.
Under the hood, there are some spots that appear to be corrison. Has anyone else run across this problem? And if yes, what did you do.
I contacted a person at Olds and she informed me that this problem is not covered under warranty because the sheet metal is not rusty. And my response was how can an aluminum hood rust.
Anyway, I feel this problem started at the factory and should be corrected under the 6 year, 100,000 mile corrosion warranty.
Thoughts!!

yep. I feel your pain. The hoods on both generations of Aurora are aluminum. The Bonneville 2000-2005, and the Riviera 95-99 had the exact same problem as well. The hood will never rust. GM's corrosion warranty only covers corrosion if it makes a hole in the body of the car. Otherwise it will not cover it. This includes heavy rust where paint has fallen off. As long as it doesn't have a hole through the sheet metal, it's not covered. That's why your hood won't be fixed under warranty. We have two Bonnevilles which have the same problem and my Riviera also had the same thing happen. My Aurora is starting to bubble under the bottom lip of the hood, but no paint has come off (yet.) We'll all eventually have this problem unfortunately. It's bad primer used from GM. A good repaint will however cost you nearly $500 or maybe more..

Man, that sucks... I haven't noticed this yet on my car thankfully, but I'll be keeping an eye out. I think I'll also be changing my battery to an Optima now while it's still good vs later when it's leaking acid. I want to steer clear of that corrosion issue too.

I have a 2001 and there appears to be some corrosion around the latch on the underside of the hood. There are some products that can be applied to arrest or impede the progress of rust. It would be fine for use on the underside of the hood but I don't know about using it in highly visible area.
Anyone else aware of these products?
