Most of us know that an Aurora occasionally may leak some oil. (LOL) Once I got the leaks sealed on my engine I tried everything I could to clean the oil slick from my driveway. Detergents, concrete cleaners, scrub brush, and my 2200 psi pressure washer. This is a paving stone drive and those stones absorb the oil big time. On concrete the oil mainly stays on the surface. Well the best I could do was get the oil off the surface but that just left a nice clean stain. Then a buddy turned me on to this "Oil Eater" stuff. Sprayed in on the stain, laid paper towels on top (no wiping) and sprayed more on top of the towels. Then I just pressed the towels into the stain and watched them suck the oil out of the stones. Once the cleaner started to dry I pulled up the towels, rinsed the spot with the hose and let it dry. I couldn't believe it but the spot was almost gone so I did the same thing again and the spot is 98% gone. I know I'm going long with this but if it worked like this on paving stones concrete should clean up great. This "Oil Eater" cost me $4.00 for a 32oz. sprayer at Kragen and then they gave me a $2.00 rebate. Makes me sick to think about what I spent on the stuff that didn't work. I hear that Pep Boys sells it too. It's made by Kafko International. All I can say is this stuff really works! If you want to get those oil stains off your nice driveway, save your money and effort with this stuff. It also doesn't tear up your skin. How cool is that? ;D

That's it alright. I knew that stuff was good for a lot more than cleaning masonry but laundry never occurred to me... but it makes sense. I haven't used the Orange Eater but the Oil Eater really works. The low cost makes it even better. I just picked up a gallon refill for $10.00 ($8.00 aft. rebate). If you've got anything with oil or oil stains you need to clean this is the best stuff I know of. I highly recommend it.

What stores are offering the rebate, or are they from the manufacturer through a certain date? That definitely sounds like a product to have around the garage & house.

Scotty, this is a manufacturers rebate, however Kragen did have an extra $1.00 rebate (there own) over the weekend. The manufacturers rebate mail in is on the bottle (both the 32oz. spray & the gal. size). I haven't been in Pep Boys for a while but I'd guess that their products have the rebate coupons on them as well. There isn't an expiration date on the rebate offer (I checked the copies I kept to be sure). It also says that that there is a 3 rebate per address/household per year and each rebate must be mailed in a separate envelope. Doesn't say if it's one per customer name but I sent one in my name and one in my wife's. FYI. If you pick some up I would read the dilution chart on the bottle. It comes full strength even in the spray bottle. I've been using it straight for most things but it can fade the color of some things. Since I found it I've been using so much that I should pick up some more. It's been cleaning or at least improving so many things that I'd given up on. edit: I know that Kragen isn't in all parts of the country but they have "sister" stores and I would guess that they carry "Oil Eater" too. Sorry but I can't think of the names of those sister stores. I'm sure that a lot of you may already know the one in your area.

Neither Auto Zone nor Advance Auto carry it, at least not the ones here. We have a new O'Reilly Auto Parts store on the other side of town, so I'll check there next. From www.cskauto.com , it looks like the sister stores you mentioned are Checker / Schuck's / Kragen / Murray's. None of them in downstate Illinois unfortunately, just the Chicago area.

I'm currently in Wheaton for a business conference today and tomorrow, and there's a Murray's store 5 miles away in Lombard. I plan to swing by tonight to get me sums o' dat Oil Eaters. Yeehaw! I hope the rebate offer is still in effect... and this all assumes that Murray's carries the same product lines as Kragen.
EDIT: Egads, I found Murray's tonight and they were SOLD OUT of the spray bottles of this stuff! It's so popular that they're all gone, although the worker said more are coming in tomorrow. I still have a chance...!

Woohoo! I got it today at lunch. Anyone in the area that wants to try this stuff, it's a GREAT deal right now. Regular price is $3.99/bottle. There is an in-store sale at Murray's for 2/$5.00. Then each bottle has a $2 mail in rebate. Net cost will be 50 cents per bottle, for a product normally price at $4! Thanks for the recommendation.

I may have to get some too. Yesterday I went to the grocery store, when I put the groceries in the trunk I noticed a grape smell. Upon further investigation, I noticed my tire dressing had leaked and now I have a rather large spot on the carpet. Thank goodness it is in the trunk but that stuff is quite oily and I have no idea how I am going to get it out. So do you all think that stuff would be safe to use on carpet or does anyone have any other recommendations?

I don't really know all I know is the carpet in your auroras trunk is like an indoor outdoor carpet easier to clean than the interior carpet of the aurora

I'm sure that you could use the Oil Eater on carpet if you dilute it. I don't know the mix but I'd try it out on a bit of carpet that doesn't show to see how it does with the color. Another favorite of mine for carpet and cloth upholstery is called "POOF". Once I got the car back from the shop with a spot of grease on the headliner material. I found this at the market and it's worked great. Just dab it on the stain and use a terry towel to gently wipe it off. The bottle lists a website: www.poofstainremover.com . Either cleaner should get that stain out of your trunk carpet. ;D

Oil Eater does mention fabrics (like clothing stains) so I'm sure it would be good on carpets. It's a non-toxic product (like Simple Green, which is something else you could try) so I doubt highly it has anything that would bleach or damage the upholstry in any way.

Hey johna (or anyone else who might be picking up some Oil Eater), could you post the address where I need to send the rebate submission form? I was smart (meaning dumb) and kept the part I send in but managed to throw away the other half that tells me the address. I e-mailed Oil Eater and never got a response, so I'm hoping someone here can help out since I had already had to drive 100+ miles from home to find the stuff!

Sure Scotty. Glad you were able to find some in your travels. It says to mail it to... Kafco Rebate Offer Dept. #8425 P.O. Box 52900 Phoenix, AZ 85072
I haven't gotten any of my rebates from them yet but it's only been 4 weeks. I usually figure 6 to 8 weeks for rebates.

Thanks! I'm gonna get mine sent off here pretty quick. I take advantage of store rebates quite often, and they usually take so long that I forget it's coming. Unexpected money arriving in the mail always makes me happy.
