Nice. I now believe it! Now, put the Aurora engine cover back on (if it fits)and stop showing off that caddy symbol!

OK. Now on to the next step: How does it run? Will you be taking it to the nearest track to find out?

OK. Now on to the next step: How does it run? Will you be taking it to the nearest track to find out? To be honest... not that different. It's super smooth and quiet when idling, just like before. Although the exhaust tone does have a little more "grunt" to it when I step on it. In my opinion, the only noticeable difference while accelerating is after you reach around 30mph; between 30 and 80 it feels like you're being sucked into the seat. I'm still going to do some investigating to make sure nothing was screwed up, because I actually think my Aurora had more "snap" off the line with it's original 4.0 engine. It feels the same way my Aurora did before I fixed the "Power/Normal" wiring underneath the shifter. Maybe I'll look there first.

OK. Now on to the next step: How does it run? Will you be taking it to the nearest track to find out? I've honestly never been to the track with any of my vehicles. I'm not even sure where the nearest one is. So I don't plan on taking the Aurora out there. Besides, this is "the family car" for my wife and I, and our two sons. I guess I'm fine just having the novelty of a 4.6 under the hood.

I think the devile transaxles all had a final drive ratio of 3.11 or 3.48. Your original autobahn transaxle would be 3.71. This could explain your lack of off the line "snap".

3.11 with the 275 HP 4.6, 3.71 with the 300 HP 4.6.

Is the radiator for the 4.0 adequate for the 4.6?

I SO Want that Engine!!!! lol
A friend of mine might inherit his grandfathers Deville for parts and has thought about giving me the engine.. If my 4.0 should ever die.

3.11 with the 275 HP 4.6, 3.71 with the 300 HP 4.6. This is correct. I actually bought the engine & transmission under the assumption that all DeVilles from that year were the same. Since I thought I was getting a 275hp 4.6, my plan was to use my Aurora's original torque converter and differential. However, Steve at the shop noticed the VIN indicated the 300hp engine. It was only then that I found out that the DeVille Councours actually had the 300hp with 3.71 gear ratio. So the good news was that it ended up being less costly due to less labor, but I didn't get the low-end torque I was planning on.

Is the radiator for the 4.0 adequate for the 4.6? I actually had my radiator replaced during the swap. So far, so good. Although it did creep up to about 220 while idling in the parking lot last week. I was about to turn it off, but the temperature guage stayed right there. Once we were moving again it was down to 200 relatively quickly. No problems while driving whatsoever.

Nice, man! Until now it was hard to believe that anyone had gotten this done. When my 4.0 dies (in the next few years max. according to my mechanic) I would like to slide in a 4.6... It's nice to know that it can be done!

Running fine now...
But I should mention that about six months after I had the 4.6 put in, the headgaskets went. I had the timeserts done when the headgaskets were replaced, and then I spun a bearing shortly after that. I ended up finding another 4.6 with comparable mileage and had the head gaskets done right away with the timeserts. I wanted to go with the stud kit, but I couldn't get a mechanic in my area to go for it. I think the Aurora has spent more time on the hoist than on the road over the past couple years.
But, like I said, it's running fine now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and checking my oil and coolant levels twice a week. I wanna keep this thing running good for at least a few more years. I'm still under 140k on the odometer, so I should be able to get a whole lot more use out of the Aurora.

How does the car run with the 4.6 in it now? Noticeable difference? Power? Mpgs? What other modifications have you made the car? Any kind of tuning?

I've only taken her up over the 100mph mark once. I'm not as adventurous now that I've got 2 kids and another on the way. It's the 300hp vin 9 setup with the Autobahn package, so the difference isn't so much in off-the-line power; but between 20mph and 80mph it feels great. I'll try to get a video posted soon. I posted pics after the first swap, but no video yet.

Sweet man, n I know exactly what you mean. No 4.6 but I got the cams . Although the Autobahn gears help you get your momentum moving.

I can see you posts, maybe no one else can, lol. There is a member here, Gator, I talk to him here and there, and he says his is running killer. He is all smiles when he talks about it. I am dying to line them up side by side, after my radiator gets in I will see if he will.
