I'm headed home on the interstate and like it was slow motion saw a small rock, smaller than the diameter of a dime, hit my windshield. Of course it left a lovely rock chip in the shape of a star. Hmm, should I leave the car out in the cold weather? Now I've gotta go get it fixed. Grrrr!
Anyone else have experience with this?

Can't a windshield repair shop just fill it with the goo they use. I've had it done and it leaves as good as no scar at all. Costs about $50.

Yeah, I'm sure hoping they can fix it. I've had it done a long time ago and had the insurance pay for it! That was on the Camaro right after we bought it. I just meant has anybody else had this happen to their Aurora?

I got one in the Aurora a few months back... Didn't seem too bad (couldn't even pick it out). A UPS truck went off the side and kicked up a bunch of debris from the inside lane. I just kept driving and kind of forgot about it. It was on the driver's side of the windshield, just about where the left wiper stops and reverses, about 10 inches up the vertical plane. The next morning, I came out to an L-shaped crack running all the way down to the base of the glass and right to the edge. I was afraid the square would just fall into the car if I drove it. $900 later, new windshield. Thank goodness for comprehensive insurance!

I've had mine replaced twice so far via insurance. No problems other than the trim than runs up over the roof and around the back window is now worn from prior removals and pops out from time to time on the passenger side on the windshield.

Got it fixed today although I'm not sure the guy did as good a job as could have been done. It seemed like he messed up and had to redo some of the process. It's fixed although I can still see some of the small star cracks. The last one I had done on my old Camaro could not be seen. As long as it doesn't spread I'm happy!

Did you go through insurance or pay out-of-pocket? Either way, do you know what the repair cost?

I paid out of pocket because the cost of replacing it was under my deductible. It was $30 to fix. Now that I've seen it done, I think I would just go get a kit and do it myself.

Well, $30 isn't much, considering it's on their fault if something goes wrong. Then again if you save the money and do it yourself (though not much money saved...), insurance would replace the windshield if you do it wrong.

Then again if you save the money and do it yourself (though not much money saved...), insurance would replace the windshield if you do it wrong. That's assuming you have full coverage. You'd also be out the cost of the kit, and probably a deductible (unless you have really, really good insurance). My Galant has absolutely zero coverage. All I have is liability (pretty good liability, too... Covers everyone inside and outside the car regardless of the accident). But if anything happens to the car, I'm out $3200+.

Often, windshield repair places will pay your deductible (usually up to $250 or so) - a common way to attract business.
