Has anyone been in an accident in the Aurora? first or 2nd gen and how safe did you feel from it? I know their rated for high safety standards but im curious as to how safe does it truely feel and if you walked away or how severe it was.

I know their rated for high safety standards but im curious as to how safe does it truely feel and if you walked away or how severe it was. We had some ice on the ground this past winter, and a lady ran into me in the parking lot. I got a couple scratches on my back bumper (hidden by the black undercoat, thank the lord i have a dark color!) but it wrecked the front of her caravan minivan. I was surpised, but I basically looked at her and said "i'm not making my insurance go up for a scratch, this one is on you." Thats the closest I've come to an accident, and it held up VERY well. Needless to say I walked away unscathed lol. (Btw I have a 1996 Classic, your results may vary!)

My grandmother got hit in her 98 classic by a teen in a lexus SUV This is what it left outlined in Red She got hit so hard buy the SUV that her glasses got knocked off of her face! Needless to say the Lexus cracked up bad, and the Aurora is built like a tank

Had the driver's side front fender scrapped up a bit from being sideswiped. Also the passenger side rear door was dented in a parking lot by someone opening their door while misssilver was pulling in to the adjacent parking spot. Overall just minor stuff.

Mine was involved in a hit and run in March. The quarter panel was damaged, but the car held really well. The only problem I see is that the parts are kinda difficult to get and they are no aftermarket replacements. If I'm not mistaken, I have heard of some Auroras have been totaled by insurance companies after having front-end damage because of the aluminum hood.
My rear bumper had to be replaced because the tabs broke beyond repair. It took the bodyshop two weeks to locate a new OEM bumper because they couldn't find a nice used one.

The bridge my son hit actually looked as bad as the car. Looking back - should have probably totaled the car, but we fixed it. Car is just as good as it was before the accident, but parts are pretty expensive and can be difficult to find....

I got rear ended by a sunfire on a COOOOLD winter night (read: -15 without windchill). All it did was crack my bumper, knock my radar off the windshield, and gave me and my buddy good whiplash. Her sunfire was totalled, airbags deployed, windshield shattered, hood buckled. That was a good test

Ya, I inflicted some damage in winter of 2003 (like 4 months after I got the car). The driver side fender was repaired and repainted. Blending was pretty good. No one would know unless I told them. I've had a woman in a blue Ford Taurus wagon back into my front bumper, left a scratch down to the black plastic....I spot repainted it...its noticable and who knows how many idiots have driven into my rear bumper. I've got at least 4 defined license plate bolt hole pairs. Oh well...I guess it could be worse for a car thats 12 years now.

My wife walked away from this with some shattered nerves and a shoulder belt laceration back in Feb. of '07. Airbag didn't deploy but that was for the best in this crash. I was so relieved that she was OK especially when I saw the car. If I hadn't found a cheap parts car my '95 wouldn't be on the road today. The Aurora got lots of damage but the passenger cabin remained as new. We're satisfied. This picture is still hard to look at.

This picture is still hard to look at. No kidding... I actually flinched a bit when I saw it, but I applaud you for not giving up on your Aurora!

She doesn't remember and the witness reports varied so the cops called it 50-50 responsibility. We each paid our own damage but I'd just taken full coverage off the Olds 2 months before (great timing) so we paid for fixing this. The main thing was and is that she's alright.

I was envolved in an accident where I slid on ice and became airborne where I preoceeded to land front end down and rolled 2 times. their was hardly any damage to the car and it didnt really look like I had rolled it, I felt extremely safe so safe in fact that I bought the same aurorora year and color the very next week. Front end was damaged and the roofline was a little crushed, but no windows were blown out.

I believe that. When they tested the structural rigidity of the chassis, the car broke the testing machine. Go figure

Robaurora - really embarrassed to say, but north of 7 grand. Only body panels that even needed work were the LF fender and the bumper cover. Didn't scratch another panel on the car, but whoa$$$ - little cracks are expensive in things like headlamp assys, foglamp assys and scratches - like on wheels run up the bucks. Every time we found a new part that it needed we rung up another 300 to 400.... Had a guy in the shop the same week as me with a Prius that got T-boned - they put about 40 hours on the rack straightening it and well over 12 grand in fixing it. the Aurora took less than a half a day to put back on spec. Have put almost 20,000 miles on the car since then and still don't regret fixing it...

when its in the garage like that you can see it looks sad, but wow what very little damage done to it for such great speed and impact. Also thats surprising that no oil is dripping from that damage not even rad fluid (unless it all spilt at the crash accident).
As for the 01 you know what i wouldn't be embarresd at all for putting that money into her, shes worth it and she knows you treated her right instead of giving up on her im sure she returns the favour to you. But yea body parts are expensive but cheaper then a lot of other vehicles if you really look into it.

Also thats surprising that no oil is dripping from that damage not even rad fluid (unless it all spilt at the crash accident). No oil leak, but the radiator was pretty well wrapped around the engine block (leaked at the crash scene). Probably would have been fine if the reinforcement bar didn't guillotine the rad right in the center. And the talk about the poly-whatever headlights the classic had is true. The left headlamp base was pretty well shattered, but the lens didn't have as much as a scratch. However, when we towed her home from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale, she fired right up and drove onto the trailer. Claims adjuster said because of the roof damaged (big $$), she was claimed as salvage, and State Farm no longer does a buy-back. I so wanted to bring her into the 21st century. 1999 STS 4.6 engine, 06+ 4T80 tranny, and complete Lucerne suspension upgrade. Maybe one day......

We had full coverage, so either I paid for everything myself (I was unemployed at the time as well) and didn't make a claim, or take the insurance check and they take the car. As far as those plans, I haven't ruled starting a certain "project" yet. Just between work and school, time is a problem (and a location as well).

It does seem that for those of us who've had a wreck in these cars, our Auroras haven't let us down.

It's nice to see a car that doesn't crush like a pop can on any minor impact. Since my girlfriend got the Aurora after having a pretty bad wreck.. this hopefully will ease her nervousness about driving regularly again.

it really is good to know that the car is built solid. Also it looks like you just washed that 300M just before it got wrecked, or did you wash it afterwards for the pics?

LOL no it was winter time LOL im suprised it looked that clean when i did snap the pics, of course i had a dodge neon at that time to so my 300M sat alot to cause i didnt wanna run up the miles on it at that time, so i probably washed it and then when i wrecked it thats why it looks so clean ... those pics of it were a day after i wrecked it, and the rust on the hood started to form i was really like wow, how it got so rusty on that one spot so fast...
