Unfortunately, this will probably be one of my lasts posts to this site because my 97 Classic Black on Black burst into flames this morning...
Pretty unhappy about it all... Started my car in the garage this morning to go to work, went back inside to finish getting ready. Came back out to leave & there was a strange orange flickering glow under the engine.
Still a bit groggy from sleep, I looked underneath the engine and saw flames under the Drivers side by the transmission on the garage floor. My car was still running so I jumped in and tried to get it out of my garage but it stalled & Wouldnt start back up.
By now the flames are spreading across the garage floor with the increasing flow of gas. Put the car in neutral and stepped out & my pant leg caught fire because I was standing in a puddle of gas. I managed to push it out into my driveway with a trail of ignited gas following. I shut all the doors Grabbed the hose, but there was no chance of putting it out. My Cell phone was in the car & everytime I opened the door to try & find it, flames would shoot from under the dash so I ran to my neighbors house to call the fire department. I just kept the fire from Spreading with the hose to prevent it from getting to the gas tank.
Fire department finally came 10 minutes later... They are only 1 mile down the road... Took them another 5 minutes to get setup, & another hour to get the fire put out.... And the reason why it took so long to put out? My two massive Odyssey 2150 AGM Batteries were supplying enough power to a short to ignite the fire again after it was out. Several Hundred Amps of current to a short will cause some heat!
And yes my Rora had the steel Fuel Rails. I'm glad I just did a full brake caliper rebuild on all four corners with Rotors & expensive Pads. Plus Master cylinder replacement, plus $85 synthetic oil change, Wire set, Kumho Z rated Tires, Alternator, Power Steering Pump, Traction Pump, Brake line flush & replacement... Boy that makes me happy!
Anyways, Enjoy your Aurora's Guys, I enjoyed mine & it will be my favorite car for a LONG time, but I just dont have the time money or patience to get another one!
Take Care!
