I'm looking around at insurance companies. I am currently with AIG, and while they have been great, their mounting losses are worrying me. Progressive is the closest in coverage/price, but is anybody familiar with their service and follow up?

Progressive is the closest in coverage/price, but is anybody familiar with their service and follow up? I do not have Progressive but have used Farmers for over 20 years. I have searched around and they have the best Service, Coverage and price for my needs. I also have never had a claim issue. They also insure my home and they re-sided and re-roofed my house after a hail storm with no questions asked. My agent even calls periodically to see if all is well and if there are any changes that we need to look at and it is alway with no pressure.

I'm with the 'nut on this one. We have had Farmers for over 20 years and have excellent service. Only 2 accident claims (both kids totaled cars) and we were very please with the way they were handled. On another note, my hubbys life insurance is thru AIG and I have been looking into changing it out. It sucks though because we have had that policy 25 years and to insure him now (he's an old, smokin' fart ) is waaaaay more expensive. The AIG policy is a "universal" life which means there is some cash back.....I can probably kiss that good-bye

I have three vehicles and three different insurance companies. Allstate for the Aurora (and the house), Hagerty's for the classic Pontiac, and Progressive for the RV.
Progressive has the best overall coverage for campers, nearly half price and better roadside assistance compared to many other insurance providers. I've had two simultaneous claims with them, and recommend them for that. VERY easy to manage your policy anytime online. Quick, friendly service, and problem resolution. In one case I was given conflicting information about my coverage, and at one point I was given an online survey about how the claim was being handled. I reported the incident and asked for a call from management (an option on the survey). Received a call the next day, and my $250 deductible was waived completely for my troubles. So they get my vote in the claims area, but I did NOT switch my car to them because their auto rates were not any better than Allstate. Insurance coverage and prices vary wildly by location though, so your quotes may prove differently.
Don't leave AIG just because of their current economic state. If your rates are too high or benefits too low, then by all means. But chances are if they go belly up, your policy would be sold to another company. You wouldn't just lose your coverage one day without warning. At least I hope not. That being said, it doesn't cost anything out-of-pocket to change insurance, so it's a good idea to shop around every few years.

I've never had a claim with AIG, but I have used their roadside assistance. Their really has not been any issues, I just don't want to be left out in the cold due to the staggering losses they are incurring. Progressive is only about $10 a month more, with slightly better coverage. Thanks for yoru input guys (and gal).

I had progressive when my fiance wrecked my final 500 alero 4 years ago. When you make a claim it is surprisingly just like the commercial. I called in right after it happened and they literally had everything lined up for me!!! They called the tow truck, the body shop that I PICKED, and even set up the rental car nearest to that body shop!! They had all of this lined up, ready by the time the tow truck came and they really didn't make a fuss over paying the $8,000 repair bill. I had to pay my deductible and 50% of the front tires due to wear.

I use Aviva insurance myself, $300 deductable, $118 a month, accident forgiveness (if ever need be), rental car as soon as possible my fault or not of the accident, if proven not my fault my gas for the rental and all related fee's are handled by my insurance company and the bill sent to the other insurance company.
I love them first license, driver's ed course and great rates!

I had Progressive in my early 20's and they dropped me after one accident the rates where not bad but I dont remember them being that much different than everyone else. Right now I have been with Allstate for about 13 years and have had 3 claims with no problems and only one minimal rate hike. I would also try E Insurance I had a buddy who used them and they where very cheap and he said there costumer service was excellent.

I use progressive always have. They are the cheapest especially since my wife just turned 25. They will go out of their way for you now. Very good service and they almost never not cover what they are supposed to.
All in all I would have to say they get a thumbs up from. Of course this is my opinion.

say scotty, i bet you could save some cash if you bundled those policies together. i used to have progressive. but State farm was able to insure everything i own plus my Aurora, for 3 dollars a month less than progressive could insure my car alone!

Good suggestion, but nope. I do have home & car (Aurora) bundled with Allstate which gives me a discount there. But for my other two "specialty" vehicles (RV and classic car), the specific policies for those from the separate companies saved me far more than Allstate could do for me. The Progressive RV policy cost me half what Allstate was going to charge, and Hagerty's coverage for the price is unmatched for classics.

I hear Hagerty's is the place to go if you want classic car insurance Only if you rarely drive the car, and are older. 3500 mile per year limit, can't drive it to work, and have to be older than 25. But then again, Hagerty is very cheap...

I was watching the speed network one day and it was something they were promoting for antique cars that people love to drive they have it just like any other insurance company but you can choose the stuff and such but haven't changed their rates since somewheres int he 1960's? I think thats what they said, thought it was Hagerty's guess I was wrong on it

Only if you rarely drive the car, and are older. 3500 mile per year limit, can't drive it to work, and have to be older than 25. But then again, Hagerty is very cheap... My Hagerty policy has NO specific mileage or usage limitations. It just cannot be my primary car / daily driver. Otherwise I'm allowed to operate it on the honor system, as a secondary "classic" car. I'm sure if I had a claim, and they could prove that I had driven it 20k miles in the last year and had no other car... my claim could likely be denied. But I don't plan to do either one of those (have a claim, OR drive it daily) so I'm not worried. I mean come on, I pay $129 per YEAR for full coverage!

I have progressive before I got my drivers licence. It's incredibly cheap that I can't believe(cheaper than a 32' LCD TV for minimum+some upgrades). Really nothing to complaint cuz other companies(GEICO, ALLSTATE, Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, StateFarm) asks for at least 5 times more than Progressive. I still do not have any idea why Progressive's price is so great.

insurance companies like Geico and All State are generally not the cheapest because of their constant advertising on tv. all that advertising costs a real bundle and it's absorbed into their customers rates.

I use progressive switched from geico got better price and so far service is gr8 since geico give me less discounts in NJ looks like geico has a stupid policy if you don’t have full coverage they don’t give u discount for airbags ABS and DRL unlike progressive.

I am in my 30's, professional career, no tickets, accidents, or claims, and drive a work issued car for commuting. When I renew my policy every 6 months I price shop around and the difference is amazing. Last year it was $170 with Progressive. Come renewal time they wanted $275 last month. General wanted $700. State Farm somewhere around $500. Geico gave it to me for $130. Last spring Prgressive was cheaper by about $75 so I switched from Geico to them last spring. Now I am back to Geico. Go figure!
I price shop every 6 months and go with the best deal. It is often $100's of dollars difference for the same coverage. Loyalty means nothing to me when you increase my rates substantually for no reason. I have never been in an accident, got a ticket, or filed a claim! I am a moneymaker for insurance companies. It pays to shop around and find the best deal.
