Hello ACNA members, I am a new member and this is my first post. I recently purchased a 1995 Aurora. I would like to get a code reader. Reading through these forums I see where the 1995 has the OBD I system. Does anyone know if the CodeScout 2500 made by AutoXray will work on a 1995? Does anyone have a recomendation for a 1995 code scanner? Thanks for any help.

I have sent 2 emails to AutoXray and they both bounced back as undeliverable. I tried calling their customer service number once today and got a recording that all operators were busy. I will try to call them again tomorrow. Rick 1995 Aurora

My .02.......if you can't get a straight answer from them, look elsewhere. There are plenty of code readers on the net. Google "OBD I code readers". That should pull up a long list of sources.

Thanks for the responses guys. I just found out from a friend that the Oriellys parts store about a mile from me has a CodeScout 2500 available for rent. He does not know what they charge but I will check tomorow morning. If it is cheap enough I can test before I buy. I probably should have put this in the classic maintenance thread. I will post again and let you know if the CodeScout 2500 works on a 1995. Rick !995 Aurora

I went to the Oreillys parts store and they let me use the CodeScout 2500 in their parking lot for no charge. They said if I wanted to take it home and use it I would have to pay the selling price ($199.00) and when I brought it back they would return 100% of the money. I was able to read the trouble codes with the CodeScout but I was not able to reset or erase the codes. I tried several times. I have seen these scanners sell for as low as $125.00 new on ebay. For now I guess I will just use Oreillys when I need to. Rick 1995 Aurora

I was able to read the trouble codes with the CodeScout but I was not able to reset or erase the codes. A scan tool can erase codes. A code reader can't.

On the AutoXray web site in the decription it states that it will read and erase codes and reset the error light. Also when using it, after it displays the codes it askes if you would like to reset them. When I push yes it makes an attempt and then gives a message that it failed to erase the codes. I have just purchased an AutoXray EZ-Scan 3000 on ebay. It is only for OBD I but I figure I can use the loaner from Oreillys (CodeScout 2500) if I need it for another vehicle with OBD II. I got the EZ-Scan 3000 for $71.00 including shipping, brand new with a warranty. I will report back after I get it and try it to see how it works. Rick 1995 Aurora

thats a good price if it works!
as for resetting the codes... some codes might not be able to be reset. on my moms van, the code for radiator relay control circuit could not be reset, but an egr code could. its wierd..
