Seems like I can't drive the beast enough. So, FL it is next week, to stay with friends in Coral Springs for a week, and then up 95 to MA for a few days, then back to Toronto. Maybe I'll take some pics this time. Going to take the 'center' route via Eire, PA this time. Done that before. Anything I should be on the lookout for?

New York state troopers, they are everywhere! i imagine you'll be going right through my area on your way down..... the NYS troopers have a couple of undercover cars that they like to bust speeders with, and when i say undercover i don't mean just plain unmarked crown vics, they've got all kinds of undercover units

That's why when I drove down to Beantown in June, I avoided as much of the NY Interstate as possible. The reports that I was getting suggested that the troopers were ticketing when there was no actual cause in order to fulfill quotas cause by a drop in state tax revenue. Now, I don't know whether to believe this or not, because that would really be sad if it were true. In any case, I don't tend to push the limit when I'm in someone else's jurisdiction. It's just plain disrespectful, and not the way a guest should behave. I'm only in NY for an hour at the speed limit in any case. Erie is pretty close to Buffalo.

yes but here's the thing, i think troopers in this area actually target tourists, and i hate to say it, especially Canadians. When the Canadian dollar was worth more than the US dollar there was a great influx of travelers to the Walden galleria mall, right down the thruway from the state troopers barracks. At the time i worked in the mall and i heard from the out of town customers was how they had been pulled over by the cops for some reason or another.
Biggest thing they like to get tourists on is window tint. Since some places have no laws concerning the tint, people do what they want, well in New York your only allowed 30% tint, which is bogus because it barely tints the windows at all.
Another thing i've learned from one of my friends who is in school to be a cop, is that you might not always get pulled over for speeding or some traffic violation, New York state will just run your plates and mail you the ticket, how delightful right?

That would a direct violation of the commerce clause; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commerce_ClauseBasically stuff like your marriage in Florida is good in NY, etc. Some things like liquior licenses, certification to practice to law are state to state, but to drive through a state, not take up residence, things like tint would fall under the cause. If that really happened to a bunch of people, call the police chief, and if that doesn't work, call a local tv news station. While they might not listen to you, they will listen to them. That's a direct constitutional right, and really, really offensive that the police would stoop to such a low level. I suspect they target foreigners as they are very unlike to fight the ticket (show up in court) and they are basically forced to pay it. That's criminal. In Georgia, on I-75 they do it too. Cent, you coming down all the way on I-95? Would suggest switching to Florida's Turnpike at Ft. Pierce. You'll avoid the construction/rush hour traffic on I-95 in Palm Beach, worth the $7.50 or whatever it is. If you be in Palm Beach later at night, 9 or so, it wouldn't matter. You'll actually get to bomb through Palm Beach on 95 . It's actually a really cool drive late at night. 95 quite twisty and the turns are banked. It's actually some fun... Google Streetview Link From about there down...

Google Streetview Link From about there down... I'm taking 95 to Boston on the way back. On the down trip, I go to Eire PA via I90. Then I79 to SR19 in WV. This 'cuts the corner' to I77. I did hear to be careful on SR19 (speed traps). I77 gets me to I26 in SC, and then connects to I95. So, I'll be on I95 from that point down. I pick up the pike when it's nearest to I95 around Ft. Pierce. We'll stay a night near Charlotte, NC. It's a good day's drive, but very doable to there. I've taken this particular route down twice before, but never on the way back. Usually try to find something interesting to stop over for going home. In this case, it's family near Boston.

Well, so far so good. Left at 08:30 Thursday (as usual, 1.5 hours late), and arrived in Coral Springs around 19:30 Friday. Lots of road construction, but it really didn't slow things down all that much. The SEL came on after leaving Charlotte, and I stewed over that for a couple of hours. Sensing my growing impatience, the light went out when I restarted after a rest break. It's not burnt out, either. The 4 new cross-drilled rotors, plus the front STS calipers are a real treat. So smooth, and so aggressive. Now, I'm much less concerned about running into something than getting rear ended. Not that I deliberately stop short, or anything. BTW, I love FL. I figure that I've spent at least 6 months here over the years.
UPDATE: Took it to Advance Auto, where they scanned it for free: P0113 IAT Too High. Whatever. A new Input Air Sensor was $13, and was in and out in about 30 seconds. Hardly even got my hands dirty.

Made it all the way, and home, with few incidents other than the SEL aggravation and a Goat Rope on I90 near Worcester MA. Here are a (very) few pics. Beast near Lake Okeechobee, FL Beast in Sarasota, FL Mini-Meet with Driftlife93 in Davie, FL Total distance for this trip was 6750Km, including local trips on site. The surprising thing was the lack of Aurora sightings. I only saw 3 in total, including the above first gen. The others were a white 2nd gen in Sarasota, and a silver 2nd gen parked in a driveway off of US12 heading for Watertown NY. Non on the road, non in parking lots, nada.

I saw on Power Block TV (one of those shows), window tint laws are crazy, there is about 50 of them (becasue the laws vary from state to state).
