I bought a brake booster, $130 at Advance and they had it in 2 hours... NAPA wanted me to wait 5 days! Advance was also cheaper than NAPA or Autozone.
I start sizing the job up, closely and in detail. I saw the inside nut that's blocked by the steering column (lower left), and how much has to come off on the engine side, and said "no way". Like Dirty Harry said, "A man's got to know his limitations", and this is beyond mine.
So, is there anyone in the Dupage County, Illinois area that can recommend a reasonable, honest, and competent mechanic? I do need to get this done, whether I do it or not.

Thanks, I was trying to stay away from the overpriced dealerships but still get someone I could at least attempt to trust.

Check with the area high schools or community colleges... seriously. If they have an Auto Shop program, they will take on repair projects for class learning. The programs are supervised by teachers with actual mechanical knowledge, so it's not as if you'll just have some high school kid whacking away at your car. DuPage is a fairly rich county so I'm betting the schools & related facilities are pretty nice too.
