They finally passed the bill!! You can now have tint on your front side windows in IL, we finally are joining the rest of the states!!
The new law is like this...
You can now have 35% all the way around
If you have 30-35% in the back you can only have down to 50% on the fronts
If you have under 30% on the back, you still cannot have any tint on your front windows
I'm stoked about this and will be calling to make my appt on monday to have my windows tinted 35% all the way around ;D

Welcome to the 21st century! While I'll agree that there always should be some tint law, otherwise morons would be running around with 5% or even 2.5% tint, States with no tint or max 50% laws are horribly antiquated...

lol 5% tint isn't dark enough for me you can still see throw it i like the 2.5% but i will admit trying to back up at night with 5% tint and no reverse light is a fun task, I could never figure out why my reverse light didn't work on my truck, o well not my prob anymore
and i think in Michigan they changed the law to where we can have the back 3 windows as dark as we like but they changed the front 2 can only have a lil 3 or 4 inch strip, witch will look like crap when i have mine done i'm going to do 5% (i'd do 2.5% but i dont think any tint shops will go that dark) on back 3 and 20% on front 2 and hope the cops don't mind

I'm actually quite surprised at this change! Here's a link to the actual bill, updated 10/30/09: www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=3325&GAID=10&DocTypeID=HB&SessionID=76&GA=96That reads kinda strange, seeming to state that front seat tint can only be 35% if the back windows already have tint applied. Otherwise it's limited to 50% darkness. Who would tint their front windows but not rear though? Maybe that's referring to pickup trucks with only one set of side windows.

And BTW, 35% looks great in almost all situations and in my experience does not substantially limit visibility from inside the car. That's what I hated about the 5% limo tint I had on my '73 Buick years ago... nighttime visibility was a nightmare and more than once I nearly turned into people or bikes that I couldn't see. Most factory rear tint on vans/SUV's is 35% for comparison. You may see a silhouette inside the car if the sun is shining in just right, but otherwise it's plenty dark.

$205 is a good price, around here it's $250-300 to do the whole car and the only place to go is Ziebart. I kinda wish we had some smaller local shops available too.

dropped it off this morning...talked to the guy a bit. Sounds like there is more iffy parts of the law. First, it's a net law, not a film law, which is what most states have. Meaning that what the meter reads is what needs to be at 35% with a +/- of 5%. So cars that have darker glass, he said alot of gm cars are like this, like the g6, have a darker dye in the glass. So if you put a 35% on it, the net tint could be 29% or less, meaning a ticket, even though you have 35% film on it.
It's some BS, he said I should be fine though....pics tonight!!

will be getting my tint done tomorrow and I can't wait but in North Carolina our tint law is cars have to have 35% and trucks/suvs can get as dark as they want which i find to be totally unfair i would at least want 30% thats as dark as I would go but theres cars around here with 20% on the front 2 windows I'm not gonna take that risk though it would be my luck to get pulled over for tint being to dark and plus my car is white that would make it look even darker.
