I just joined ACNA yesterday. I don't have an aurora yet but I want one badly.I have been studying them but I have a problem deciding.I like the looks and size of the first generation, but I like the side air bags and use of regular fuel wich brings a new question. How dose same 4.o engine make 250hp on premium fuel in first generation and 250hp on regular fuel in second generation. I think the 98 or 99 model may be the best of the whole lot but I need help deciding.

All engines specs for the 2nd generation were upgraded. 2 examples: The cylinder heads on the 2nd gen V8 are freer flowing, and the intake valves are larger on the 2001-03. The 2nd gen v8 has rocker arms, which the 1995-99 did not have. This permits higher valve lift. In short, the only carryover spec between 1999 & 2001 was the engine size........4.0 liters or 244 cubic inches. All that permits the 2001-03 to run on regular & make the same power as the 1995-99 on premium.

yes its the same problem for me. i like the spacey front end on the first one, but i do not like the full width tailight. i like the sab and the use of more wood on the second gen, but i like the dic and steering wheel on the first one. VERDICT-buy a 99

if thay would have made it where you could get an option to cover the mid section, and leave the out section i would be ok ...then it's not a full width tail light is it? It all burns down to personal preference pretty much. There is a greater chance that a 2G you would buy would be in better condition simply because its newer. While I love my 96' there are some features that it lacks. The passenger mirror doesn't go down while reversing (97's and up do this) and the shocks aren't quite as nice, the garage door opener doesn't support rolling codes, and the mirror doesn't have a compass. Again, the 97's and up had these standard. Marc explained the engine difference quite well; they were simply re-engineered to be a more efficient engine of a little higher quality. That being said the Classic is no slouch, it performs just fine. Why are you leaning towards a 98/99? Any specific reason? If you elaborate I'm sure we can give you info to help you decide! If you find any specific ones you want feel free to post links to them as well, we can lend advice there.

I think the second gen 4.0 generally runs better on premium gas anyways. correct me if I'm wrong?
Also, the classic 4.0 actually runs just fine on regular, if its in good working order. It will be slightly slower but does not cause any harm. I never had a problem paying a little extra for premium gas personally unless money was really tight.

The 2nd Gen 4.0 runs MUCH better on premium......that's been my experience, in brief.

How dose same 4.o engine make 250hp on premium fuel in first generation and 250hp on regular fuel in second generation. aurorah.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=Gen&thread=19094Mainly the improvements in burn rate allow the same result from less timing advance. Which reduces the likelihood of detonation, which allows for a lower octane fuel to be used. When talking about the engines, the 2001+ engine is absolutely improved. The rest of the car is subjective. Best to drive a few of them and make your own decision. I wouldn't get hung up on what fuel it takes. Both cars do better on premium, but will run on regular.

The 2nd gen v8 has rocker arms, which the 1995-99 did not have. Just FYI Marc, no conventional DOHC engine has rocker arms, the lifters or followers operate the valves directly. Whatever lift the cam has, that's what the valve will be doing.

i would buy a 99 or an 03 Please don't give advice without support to your claims. You have given no reasoning as to why you suggest a 99 or an 03. aww collins sounds like you might be wishing you had a 97, wanna trade For YOUR 97? Heck no! I want an Aurora, not a Ricemobile! ;D Seriously tho it doesn't bug me all that much. My 96' does just fine. Besides I have a 99' garage transmitter and a 97' mirror in mine right now thanks to Randy, I'm content!
