My son's car has developed a slight chirping from the right front wheel. Does it only after driving for a while. I suspect a slightly warped brake rotor. There is no pulsing in the steering wheel when braking however. Hope it is not a wheel bearing. Easier to change the rotor. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. It does get louder when he applies the brakes he said. Haven't tested it myself. Can't get the little turd to let me drive it. He is always gone with it.

thanks dred98, It sounds similar but this chirping happens constantly after getting warm, not just in turns and over bumps. Regardless, I am going to give it a shot anyway. Can't hurt as far as I know. Will let you know if it corrects the problem, provided I can get the kid to stop long enough for me to get a look at it. He sure loves to cruise with that car. Can't blame him, I would too if I had had a car like that when I was his age. Heck, I would do it now if I had a car like that. LoL

Well despite the 92 degree heat and the high humidity I changed the brake rotor on the right front and scuffed up the pads to get rid of the glaze. Chirp went away. Hope it stays away.

Think it was a warped rotor after all?

omegaic, it appears thats what it was. The rotor replacement seems to have fixed it and it hasn't come back yet. Will keep fingers crossed. Easy fix, took only about 30 minutes. Was pleasantly surprised. I understand I need a special tool for the rear calipers if I want to push the plunger back into the caliper housing but with the front it only took a C clamp.

Check for unevenly worn pads, are you experiencing a lot of brake dust at that location?

JimW, didn't see alot of brake dust before I changed the rotor which did seem to fix the chirping. Now I am getting a squeal from the left side front when brakes are applied. I think the pads (look almost new) may be cheap pads and I am thinking about just replacing them. Any suggestions other than ceramic? I am sure the kid can't afford them.

It could have been just the act of taking stuff apart fixed it. Was the chirping a constant sound, or like "chirp chirp chirp". Unless it was a fast intermittent sound, I wouldn't think it was a warped rotor. Not that it matters as you've replaced it now.
The squeaking while braking could just be dust. One good fix is to pull the pads off, clean everythign down with brake cleaner, and put some grease on the face of the piston bore and the other side of the piston (the claws or whatever) where they contact the brake pads. That should help prevent squeaking. It's not just cheap pads that dust.
Question, did you replace both rotors on the front? You should never replace just one. Also, if using a C-clamp (I use that too, need to buy a proper tool one of these days) make sure to use an old brake pad or something. Don't have the clamp make direct contact with the piston bore. You can nick it or press it off-center and damage it.

Aurora40, I used an old pad to make sure I wasn't off center and to make sure I did not push the piston in too far. Only changed one rotor as the other ( actually both looked very new) If you recommend I will definetly change the other. The first noise was an intermittent chirp meaning it went chirp chirp chirp as you drove or braked. Always happened after you drove the car about 4 - 5 miles and then it was always there until the rotors cooled down. Will clean the pads and rotors tonight and apply the grease (what about that anti-squeal stuff that they sell - worth it?) Thanks

If one was warped, it's safe to say the other has probably seen better days as well. What's the anti-squeal stuff they sell? I'd bet it's probably just lube or a backing plate for the brake pad. If it's cheap, go for it. Otherwise, some high-temp lube will work fine. I think it's usually molybedunium (spelling butchered) grease or something.

Auroa40, will do, thanks for the help. The anti-squeal stuff looks like a blue grease but then seems to harden up some. Only used it once when it came with some pads I bought. Will just go wtih the high temp grease.

i have the same chirping from the right front wheel. I changed the pads, rotors, and calipers in the front and changed the pads and calipers in the back. Changed the ball joints in the front. Still chirping out of my right front tire. Took it to a shop and they told me i needed a right front wheel hub assemby. $130 in just parts and by looking at jim's wheel hub post, it doesn't look pretty to change.

tedhontz, that is what I was afraid of but looks like I got lucky. Sorry you didn't. I also saw what JimW had to go through and I don't think that is something I would like to tackle. I may though if I ever have to. Good luck whatever you decide to do.
