Should be R134A but I would wait for more replies.

Calling any AC shop or even a dealership to ask the question couldnt hurt, at least you will get an immediate answer. If I am not mistaken my 96/97 (long story there) runs on R134A

You should have a sticker under the hood ubove the radiator with this info. If it is is still there.

i found the manual on a website, thanks to everyone on here, and determined it does indeed take 2 lbs of R134a.
Thanks for all your help!

Thought so, I'm pretty sure 94 and prior used freon, due to common AC failures, R134A is a nice and politically correct way to recharge an air con system. In Canada its illegal to have freon unless you are a proper distributor/holder of that substance.

same rules apply for freon in United States. I finally got my car today. Made it home ok. It does take R134a, says so on the sticker. It however does NOT take Dex-cool antifreeze, must've been a 96 thing and up, for which im jumping up and down for. I HATE DEXCOOL! Only problem I seem to notice is a 55mph, the car shakes alot, kinda like a tranny slip, yet the tranny seems to shift great. It could also have to do with the check engine light on. I'll be replacing plugs/wires this weekend along with ball joints and calipers/pads. Hope ONE of these things fixes that shake. Any suggestions?

A 55mph shake could be a bad wheel balance - or is that too easy?

It's a very good possibility! When I first got my car, it shook violently between 65-75mph. It was great below and above that tho! (BTW: It took a couple tries before they were balanced correctly...)
