Does the computer need to be reprogrammed after a new battery has been installed. I have had no trouble with my car, had the original battery,it died had a new one put in. Got the car home,my husband noticed a noice in the garage. The car was turned off but the blower was running. It was the weekend no dalerships open so he had to take it 20 miles to a repair shop.On the way it started to skip and backfire. When they checked the computer a bunch of crazy codes came up they were able to refigure all but one. Monday I had the car towed to the dealership they said they had to replace the sensor in the transmission for 1200 dollars. I had no problems with the transmission before!!!!!!!!

First of all, welcome. Second, I am sorry but I do not have an answer on your battery/tranny question. Maybe someone could look in their service manual. Hope you find out whats wrong? Coincidence maybe?

I looked at this job in the 2001 Aurora shop manual. It's just a straightfoward task....just remove the battery cables, remove the vent ducts, loosen the battery hold down clamp, and lift the battery out. Installation is the reverse of removal. Nothing was said about comput- er reprogramming. I don't think that it would be very different for the 1995. _________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

The only thing I can think of is the dead battery either wasn't smoothing out the dc wave voltage = surge, or the alternator was putting out to high a voltage. I know a dead or dying battery can cause strange codes and symptoms like doors locking and unlocking randomly and the security/courtesy systems as well as the climate and cruise controls acting as if possesed.

I can see the car backfiring but I don't see how they came up with the tranny sensor unless they were going of the codes BUT you can't trust the codes stored while the battey was bad. I would have erased all the codes and run the car to see what re-occured if I was the dealer tech.

Thanks for the replys, because this happened on the weekend I could not take it to the dealer. The first mechanic did clear the codes but the trans light stayed on. I find it stange that the blower was running with the key out of the car. The first mechanic replaced the blower, then I had the car towed to the dealership where they told me the sensor was blown. It just seems to me that the if the computer was sending the wrong information it could have wrecked the blower andburned out the sensor. I am not a car mechanic just trying to make sense out of this.Anyone have the1959 manual?

It's going to keep eating batteries until you find the problem. There must be a short or bad ground somewhere. Unfortunately, there are miles of electrical wiring in these cars so it may take a little while to pin down.

The dealer just sent somone out for the car. Started right up for him. They took it back to the shop to check it out. Both my husband and I had tried to start it before thank God or they would say it's a woman thing!

Just got back from the dealership The car would not turn over for me. Stompped back in gave them the keys. Darn thing started right up for them. Told them to keep it and check it out again. The first time I pickrd it up I had trouble with it turning over, but on my second try it worked.then it skipped on the way home and after being in the garage for a while did not start. Don't want to go through that again

I know this sounds stupid, but I had a problem just like this one a previous car of mine. The car would be fine and all of a sudden it would not start. Guess what it was............a dead cell in the battery. So, before you spend anymore money on this issue you might want to check the battery for a dead cell or better yet, just try a new battery! Is the battery in your car a die hard by any chance? If so, change it!

If you have ruled out the battery problem, then I would check both connections.

The dealer still cannot figure out why it would not turn over for me. I ran it yesterday and it started right up going to let it sit in the garage a day and see what happens

I've Heard of the 95/96 Aurora's having an insane amount of electrical issues, but wow. there sounds to me like there is more than one issue.
