I go out to start the car up this morning and nothing. The engine cranked for a while so I gave up. Tried it again and the same thing happened. Finally had to turn the key to where it cranked and mash the gas peddle to the floor and it started. The tach stayed at 0 rpm for a second or so and then surged to around 1500 RPM. Any idea whats causing this? Does this mean my FPR is giving out or already gone? Help me please!

That's a weird problem. Once in a blue moon my car hesitates to start when warm. It seems to be a semi-common problem with the classics. Something about an idle air valve or throttle position sensor or something.

Definitely FPR, Elan, do a search on the Aurora boards at AF.com, LOTSA information there I bet.
I will post a pic of the FPP location tomorrow (Sunday)

Looks like it!
I just checked my car that that is indeed it. You will notice at the front right of the intake manifold, a cap with a schraeder valve, that is where you relieve the fuel pressure, helps to open the gas cap as well (pressurized).
Fuel will come out of the valve, so have a towel handy to soak it up, and its under 50psi of pressure, so be careful. Then disconnect the FPR and install the new one.
Its a pretty easy job, I did it myself (with a buddy) on my Bonneville.

I called around this morning and all anyone has in stock is the borg-warner...is it ok to go with that one or better to wait and go with delco?

I would say AC Delco. When it comes to stuff like that under the hood, I stay stock.
Up to you tho, havent heard a lot of bad things about Borg-Warner. Just whatever you do, dont go with Bosch

Another thing,
Whats the tool called that you need to take the FPR out? It looks like a star key but it needs to have a hole in the key. I forget what these are called. Damn cars.

erw38, I think it is called a security torks bit. Not a 100% sure but if you mention that at a parts dealer they will know what you are talking about.

thanks hockeydad, but it appears that the star looking screw if just there for a false sence of security. I screwd it all the way out and then realized that I didnt need to take it out to take the FPR out. looks as if the only thing houlding down the FPR is a simple compression fitting. Thing is, I bough the torx keys to do it (lifetime warranty) and the dang socket that they came with broke. Can you say refund? It was actually very easy to do. Straight in and out replacement. Its just very hard to see that there is a small black o-ring that sits down in the groove. It was pooled over with gas so it took me some time to investigate why the new FPR would not fit. Oh well. I got everything in and its good to go. The car didn't blow up so I'm happy. I was seriously looking around the house for a fire extinguisher but could not find it. Started the car and it died the first time. I was bummed to say the least. Next time I started it it started like a champ. I guess even stupid people like me can work on cars (at least do simple things). It was a confidence boost to say the least. Thank you to everyone on here that helped me out with this "project." Also, everyone that posts here is great because you all have given me the confidence to do this on my own. I would have never tried it before this forum. Thank you again. Elan

It was one thing.............kind of an ego boost when you fix something on your car (fuel related too) and the car doesn't blow up when you start it

So far the car is great. She starts like a champ, although gas mileage may still be an issue. at 100k I might change out plugs and wires with delco if things dont start to reverse. But I gotta wait and see.
What is that screw for on tor of the FPR for anyway?

Good job erw38. Takes some intestinal fortitude to dive in and get the job done when you are a little inexperienced. Way to go. Is that your rora at the top of the page? Nice looking ride. My sons 97 has a different looking wheel if I am not mistaken.
