My Aurora just rolled over 65K and is still on the original plugs and wires. I think its about time she got a new set of both. The Delco plugs are $6.49 each so I'm going to go with those. The Delco wires are $153.99 as opposed to the O'Reilly house brand that is $89.99. I'm probably going to save up and go with the Delco wires anyway just because I want to keep it stock. My question is is the cheaper stuff just as good? Is it worth it to save up for the Delco wires? Thoughts?

when your dealing with caddy equipment......stick with OEM for the most part lol on a normal car with less stuff that is able to break and costed much less from factory like lets say a tercel or corrola then yea I would go with the cheaper stuff but not when it comes to a car that you look at it the wrong way and it treats you badly for the next two days and you didn't even mean it then you bring it some flowers and it loves you again lol
sigh edit :
I need to not write stuff in the morning lol

Everyone with Auroras has had the best performance with OEM plugs. AC Delco. I believe they are almost identical to the NGK's. NGK makes AC's now or vice versa, I can't remember which. Bosch seemed to be a trouble brand for Auroras (maybe all GMs?) although there are folks here who used them without problems. Same for house brands, I remember one of our former members who had over 250k miles on his Aurora used generics. But he also exchanged them 3 times over the life of his car. I believe the AC Delco's will have a better longevity record than that, although I'll admit that I lack scientific data to prove that. xjsman89 you could probably wait another 10-15k miles if you wanted, unless you start to suffer performance or experience misfires. My Aurora started having misfiring/acceleration problems at 75k, which was completely cured by new plugs & wires.

It was more of an errant thought than anything else. I'm going to be working as one of the Maintenance guys at my apartment complex once school finishes up for the semester and I'll have some spending money for a change. I've wanted to get her a new set of plugs and wires for a while. You're right though, since she only has 65K I'll be fine for another couple thousand I'm sure. I only get the occasional misfire (like once every couple months) and it throws a code but the code stays away once I clear it. Thanks for all the feedback though, guys! It looks like my suspicions were confirmed. Delcos it is!

Well, AC doesn't really make much of anything anymore, they spec someone to make it. Denso and NGK make some AC plugs. For the 2nd gen they are Denso iridium plugs. I think the 1st gen uses double-platinum, not sure who makes them.
AC seems to be making more crap and less GM stuff, though (dunno if that's part of GM trying to sell them off, or just a profit measure). So don't automatically assume that the replacement part they sell is the GM replacement part. They should have a GM number on the box if so.

The Delco wires are $153.99 as opposed to the O'Reilly house brand that is $89.99. They are like $110 on RockAuto, and they have a "closeout" set for $55.

NGK makes AC's now or vice versa, I can't remember which Last year, I posted a pic in another thread. I took a photo of my AC Delco spark plugs. They were wrapped in plastic and cardboard, but the actual plugs were stamped "NGK". I would definitely agree with you on the OEM recommendation. There are far too many horror stories on this forum from people who have gone with non OEM plugs.

For 2G, the AC number is 41-987. Platinum. The factory plugs I took out were Denso. 12561466 (GM P/N) PT16EPR-C13. They show up in the Rockauto catalog at $4.75 each, but I put the AC's in at just under $6 each from my local Delco parts shop.

Stick with ACDelco plugs, go with the Delco wires if you can afford them.......I couldn't when I did mine, and I went with the Duralast wires from Autozone, they have been great so far. I know another member also recommended them, I just can't remember who.

Just bought a set of ACDelco plugs, part number 41-950. They're stamped ACDelco on the center too so I don't think they're outsourced.
I'm going to stick them in later today if I can... It all depends on how quickly the engine cools down.
