Well I was run off the road in rush hour in my 1997 Aurora into some mud that was very deep. The next thing I know I was being rushed into an ambulance. Well I went to go look at the car and there is no physical damage to the outside it looks like. I guess when I went into the mud I must of passed out and I floored my aurora for 15 to 20 minutes, the DIN said that it needed antifreeze and that the oil needed to be changed even though I just had the oil changed two days before. My car has 120k on it, but the motor never sounded bad at all. When I started it up the other day, the motor ticked and oil light and antifreeze came up on the DIN. What do I need to look for on this since I really don't want to have them just say the car is fixed from insurance. I would rather just have them put it to sleep and get another. What should I be looking for, so that I can get the upper hand. My buddy of mine, who works at a GM dealership said a used Northstar for this car is around 3 grand? Is this true? Any help would be appreciated guys and gals.
Thanks,
Ryan

Lemme see if I understand this correctly, when you passed out you had your foot on the accelerator and it ran at high RPM for 20 mins? Hrmm, well engine might be ok, but I would be concerned about all the other working parts with mud in em...
I doubt the car is totalled. Clean it up, do your engine maintenance and see what happens.

See if your GM buddy can help you out with suggestions on this... and yes, the 4.0L Northstar is a pricey piece of equipment. Someone on Oldsmobile Forums recently posted about paying $3999 for a completely rebuilt version.
Is there a pending insurance claim? If so, I would imagine that they should pay for any damages related to the crash... ? Keep us updated; glad to hear that you are okay!

Wow that is something. I hope you and the aurora OK althought from the way you explained the motor probably got waaay overworked from holding the floor in drive, spinning the tires.

Running with the gas floored for 20 minutes really shouldn't hurt the motor too much. The rev limiter should have kept it from doing too much damage. But seems as how it already has 120K on it you may have blow the head gaskets.
It is also possible that you might have pulled some muddy water into the motor if the mud was deep enough. If that is the case then you are looking at serious damage. I would pull the air cleaner out and look at it to see weather or not that happened. Best of luck to you and hopefully you and your Aurora will come out of this without too much trouble.

Good thing you made it through ok. It is quite possible that your engine/powertrain has not suffered any serious damage. The north* is a high performance motor that has spent days in testing at full throttle. In all possiblity the rev limiter and traction control took care of any damage that might have occured. Change your oil, clean up the car and check for leaks.
Anything is possible with a higher milage car however. But do drive the car first and give it a chance.

How deep is very deep? Is it possible the motor ingested water? It must have been pretty deep to keep you from driving along if the pedal was depressed.

So what happened to you Ryan? Ok I assume, as you're not talking about your brain injury. (I had one or two of those, can ya tell?)
Was there any displacement of the motor/tranny? Motor mounts broken? Loss of any fluids? Radiator mounts broken?
It is also unlikely that your foot would remain fully depressed on the pedal while unconscious, what makes you think it was? Having been rendered unconscious behind the wheel myself (at high speed) I know that the foot will fall off the pedal unless the interior of the car is deformed (another thing I've experienced).

Well Guys and Gals,
The update is that it is totaled. Kinda sad, but also kinda happy, I am heading out to buy a 99 aurora tonight, white diamond, just the color i wanted originally. I spoke with the cop again, and he did reiterate that my foot was flooring the engine for 15 to 20 minutes, made a nice black mark on the side of the car. So while this has been a pain in my @ss, I will end up with a better car hopefully. The actual damage on the car was actually pretty minimal, they were worried about the motor the most. i sounded and felt like it was missing. So we are Moving right up. I will keep all up to date.
Out,
Ryan
