I did find out my engine fan absolutely is not working. The car doesn't overhear, of course I haven't sat in hot traffic yet. But I drove it and then let it sit idling for a bit and they didn't move. could this be related to when I changed the serpentine belt to bypass the ac compressor?

Pull the temperature sensor out of the coolant reservoir. If the message "Low coolant" pops up on the DIC, then within a couple minutes the fans should come on at full speed. Report back your findings and we can go from there

fans can die , two at the same time is not likely. fuses? operator error.

Did your car hit 225* Most fans don't come on until then, so it's normal for them to not work. In many cases only one fan will kick on then, and the other won't come on until the car's overheating.. like 235 or 240*. In some cases both will turn on, but with an inline resistor, until temps get even hotter, then they'll change over and get the full 12V Turn on your A/C to max and see if one comes on though, then it should no matter what. Report back

Alright it's been a while. I've had this LOW COOLANT warning on for a couple weeks now and I think I just need to clean my tank out. BUT...the fans still have not come on. I had it sitting in some serious heat and the temp rose above the half way mark and still nothing. I pulled the fuses and checked them, they are fine. The relays though....not entirely sure how to test them as I don't have a meter.

They won't turn on until you get quite a ways past 1/2... more like 2/3 probably.
Did you try the A/C thing??

Alright...they worked. Not sure if I was just losing my mind but I was checking the fuses last night and decided start it up and see what would happen. They both came on. A low speed though, I don't know if they go faster I'm sure they do. They are soooo quiet. You would never be able to hear them unless you looked at them to see if they're moving.

Yes, that's how they work. Once the car hits dangerously hot temperatures they will kick on high speed and be loud.
The circuit is setup so that they can be run at a low speed and a high speed.

I guess I have a lot still to learn about these cars. I just assumed ours should be loud too when other cars pull up next to me and all i can hear are their engine fans.

Yep...almost had to put my hand in the fan just to tell if it was running...

Lol I know, I figured this out when I was playing with a Malibu one day. Unplugged the coolant temp sensor and was user a potentiometer to fool the car into thinking it was over heating.. used a scanner to watch the temp rise. .. Got the fans to come on at like 225*, but they were real quiet.. then I kept it going and at like 240* or 250* they kicked into high gear! So then I went and checked their wiring diagram and was like "OOOO cool tht makes sense!" I looked and the Aurora has the same setup.. might be a GM thing, those dual speed fans.

It shouldn't really ever get much past the first hash after 200. (So 225).
